I started making a 1/2 recipe to find I had 2/3 the flour I needed so subbed cake/self raising flour and only icing mixture not pure icing sugar so my glaze didn't set so crispy (added caramel coffee syrup to add flavour) but Ive only had cc's cold and these didn't last that long. It made 9 large donuts which I made the bagel cheat way - roll into a snake, cut rounds and poke a floured finger thru the middle.
Put on greaseproof paper sprayed with oil. Used my deep fryer and whist my oil was pretty fresh, they will absorb any flavors. Made in bread machine reduced my time. Set up a process line - 2 frying, one draining on paper towel, one upside down in a bowl of glaze then onto plate - didn't put over tray. As per another reviewer had enough for 3 bread rolls did 2 bagel shape (needed bigger hole as it closed up during cooking) with sesame seeds.perfect w smoked salmon
