Best recipe for beef stew I have found. Only I didn't need 12 hours, but it was done in 7 with my settings on low and had to stir every 1-3 hours otherwise gets a nasty black crust you have to scrape out. I think its the flour burning if not stired. Maybe because I have a newer crock pot and only used 1 pound of meat it was done sooner. Used 3-4 tablespoons of flour and a pinch of thyme. Used a bit more broth perhaps 2 cups?--until everything was covered. Usually use wine but found the recipe had a lot of flavor I didn't need it. Used yams instead because they are healthier. This stew gets salty after cooking so don't add extra salt until done. Bigger chunks of veggies might be better as they get smaller after cooking. Was very tasty when it came out so will be using this as my basic stew recipe from now on.
