Maple Roast Turkey and Gravy

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2010
Not a winner. Skin burnt almost immediately and the breast was too dry while the back was almost undercooked, this with an UNSTUFFED turkey. Could not taste any of the maple flavouring. Thank you, Ibby, for sharing this recipe, but I feel that it was too much effort for very disappointing results. Next time I will be trying the brine recipe I saw in my local paper last week but didn't use this year in favour of this one.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2010
OMG! So very easy to make and so very delicious! I did a double recipe yesterday morning for turkey dinner for 15 people and it was almost all gone by the time that dinner was over. Rave reviews all around. This is now my "go to" recipe as far as stuffing goes. One hint re: the bread cubes... if your bakery sells day-old bread cubes, USE THEM... not only does it cut out the need to have to cut the bread, the cubes will soften up when you add the butter & turkey stock.

Eileen's Spicy Gingerbread Men

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2006
Very difficult to work with. Like the previous reviewer, I had trouble with the stickiness of the dough. Perhaps it's because I live in the Caribbean (my kitchen is about 81ºF this evening) and the air is generally humid (thus adding to the stickiness of the dough, but I found that I had to add an additional 3/4 c of flour just to get the dough to a workable stage where I could remove it from the bowl, and in doing so, I burnt out the motor on my electric mixer!!! Damage to my mixer aside, I found myself very hard pressed to give this recipe 1 star. The dough smells wonderful, and I look forward to sampling the cookies tomorrow when my roommate and I (both Canadian expats living overseas) try them, but the difficulty I encountered in this recipe isn't worth the effort of trying it again next year.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Tip for newbies like myself... DON'T handle dough too much after kneading. I used a rolling pin to "flatten" to the specified thickness and they didn't rise too much. Freeform seems to yeild better results.

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2003
IT'S A KEEPER, FOLKS! Yes, this recipe IS as easy and delicious as the previous reviews state. I tried it yesterday for the first time and it turned out beautifully! The colour of the finished loaves is beautiful, the insides soft and sweet... perhaps I may try cutting back on the sugar next time as well, but I like it nonetheless... and it slices up like a dream! Definately going into my "my favourite recipes" recipe collection! :o)
