Mom's Baked Egg Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2012
delicious! I didn't use the maple syrup because I don't like the taste so I added 1 Tbsp of butter instead . I used sliced homemade white bread and 3 turkey sausages (cut in little squares) instead of the bacon. next time i'll try it with whole wheat bread as a healthier alternative and perhaps cut down on the butter (or use a diet version of butter). my boyfriend suggested using cubed or shredded roast chicken instead of the bacon as a healthy alternative as well but I didn't think that would taste as good as this. next time i'll also double the recipe.

Gunline Coffee

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
I didn't know how this would turn out with the spices but it is really delicious. I used powdered skimmed milk instead of the non dairy coffee creamer and good quality chocolate (at least 32% cocoa). For a coffee this is great, however I am more of a chocolate drinker so I tried adding more chocolate and less coffee and it turned out even better for my taste. I tried this recipe with regular quality chocolate mix (20% cocoa) as well and the taste is very different, more bland. so I recommend the use of good chocolate because it boosts all the other flavors.

Brownie Frosting

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
wonderful frosting. I use it on the dark chocolate cake I recipe also on this website. heavenly. I leave it to harden a bit before covering the cake with plastic wrap to keep it fresh. it also keeps the cake moist and fresh for many days. I love the fact that you can slightly feel the sugar crunching under your teeth but that it melts away quickly once in your mouth.

Dark Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
one of the best cakes i have ever made. i always get compliments on this one. It is very chocolaty, moist and airy. i hate tightly packed, hard and dry cakes and this is as far from that as you can get. i use the brownie frosting (from this website) on this cake and wait for it to dry and harden before covering it. it keeps well for many days.

Butter Crescents

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2012
I made these in my bread machine using the pizza dough cycle and they turned out wonderful. I put turkey sausages (or cheese (babybel) instead of the sausages sometimes) in them. I followed the recipe to the letter, except that I only warmed the milk in the microwave and let the butter melt in it afterwards. I may even use this dough to make hot dog buns. make sure you leave enough space between the crescents while baking them because they get bigger. next time I'll cook them at 190 degrees though, mine browned a bit too fast.

Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream

Reviewed: May 13, 2012
I loved this recipe. very flavorful and creamy. I also loved the fact that the eggs were cooked and that you used the whole egg. I've gotten tired of stacking egg whites because of recipes that only use the yolk. this one is a keeper. I halfed the recipe, and used organic vanilla extract. For those living in France, I used Elle&vire creme Fleurette entiere (30 %) as the whipping cream and Elle&vire Fleurette 15% as the half and half cream. I cooked everything, let in cool then put in the fridge until cold then poured it in my ice cream maker. it was delicious.

Perfect Sushi Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2012
truly perfect. when I first tasted the rice on its own I thought it was too sweet and vinegary but then in the sushi maki it was perfect. this is my first time making sushi and it turned out really good. I used about 9 sheets of nori with this (I would have used 10 or 11 if I hadn't burned some of my rice, careful there, I cooked it with the lid on and without much stirring so I have to watch it more carefully next time). but it still made me about 72 sushis, that's a lot of money if I had to buy it all the time. for the salmon sushis, I used les than one package (4 pieces) of smoked salmon, half a package of philadelphia cream cheese, and either cucumber or avocado. for the tuna, 1 can + 1 heaping tsp of mayonnaise, some lemon juice, and cucumber or avocado. for the vegetarian: cucumber, tomato, onion, lemon juice and fresh mint leaves. (this was a hit). for the lump fish eggs, I just used that or with cucumber. next time i'll try crab meat, mayonnaise, lemon juice and cucumber

Mocha Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2014
Good recipe. loved by many. I used 1 cup of sugar instead of the 1.25 cups called for and that was wise because it would have been too sweet otherwise. the coffee was simple genius as it enhances the chocolate taste without giving any 'coffee' taste. Those of you who would like to have a richer coffee/mocha taste would need to add more coffee to the recipe.

Chocolate Velvet Ice Cream

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
one of my favorite ice cream flavors is chocolate mousse from baskin robbins (right after pralines & cream) so I was looking for something similar but still not expecting it to be the same. I was right because I loved this but it is different from what i had in mind. baskin robbins' ice cream has more chocolate and is more chewy. I wonder if adding another egg yolk would make this more chewy and elastic. I used whipping cream instead of heavy cream. I'm not sure about the difference but I can't find heavy cream where I live so I used regular whipping cream (30% fat). the only thing I would change is add more chocolate because I like my chocolate ice cream very chocolaty and use maybe more cocoa powder or more grated chocolate. it was also very rich and very creamy so maybe next time when in the mood to cut a few calories i'll try this with half whipping cream and half half-and-half (or light whipping cream - 15% fat) but i'm not sure, since adding the chocolate might change the taste anyways.

Six Threes Ice Cream

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
I didn't know what to expect when I made this with my new ice cream maker but this turned out to be very interesting and rather refreshing. I'm not giving this 5 stars because i'm not really partial to orange ice cream and this really felt like a rather acid orange ice cream with a hint of banana. the texture is wonderful but as I said, too orangy for my taste. but then i'm not really into trying unusual combinations , i usually stick with chocolate, vanilla and berries ice cream. but the ratings made me want to try it and i do not regret it. now i have a recipe to impress my mother in law with (she always makes us guess what ingredients went into her very colorful and very unusual meals, I swear she lives to surprise us and is always on the look for new and preferably weird recipes, though they're usually tasty. I figure i'll turn the table on her which would be fun! thanks) it also reminded me of a layered cake my mother used to make with fresh orange juice soaked biscuits, whipping and custard creams and sliced bananas, kiwis and strawberries, tastes almost the same.

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
I took into account what was said in other reviews and made much more sauce by adding more chicken broth, a little more milk and some more flour. in the end I had about the double of liquid. I also added much more pepper and used 1/2 tsp to 3/4 tsp of garlic powder instead of celery seed. it was delicious and one of the best pies i've made but only because of those adjustments. i suppose it would have been very dry if not for the added sauce which is why i'm only giving this recipe 4 stars. with the adjustements it's a 6 star recipe. i also baked the pie for 45 mins at 375 degrees after brushing it with some milk.

Mini Meatloaves

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
If you do not like the taste of ground beef with no spices, garlic or herbs, you won't like this. especially if you do not use extra lean beef. I tried this recipe expecting a lot because of the good ratings so I was really dissapointed. I never cook ground beef without some type of herbs or spices or garlic. so those of you who do like the taste of meat on its own especially since I couldn't find extra lean beef, be careful. all I could taste is the grease and the flavorless meat despite the ketchup/sugar/mustard mixture. the cheddar (which I usually love) did not enhance the flavor but instead it made the whole thing greasier in a rather disgusting way. I give this 3 stars because my boyfriend liked them enough to eat the whole tray by himself because I couldn't touch them after the first few bites. If i ever do this again i'll add lots of fresh garlic and some pepper or other spices (liles all-spice) and i'll make sure to buy extra lean beef. so it is not so hard to enhance the recipe.

Vanilla Glaze

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2012
sorry but this recipe as it stands is not good. it needs more vanilla and a LOT more milk! I couldn't even get a hard paste with that amount of milk, the sugar was still powdery in a weird moist way. maybe a typo problem. I doubled the vanilla and added about 6 and half tablespoons of milk instead of the stated 2 and half teaspoons. Once I did that the recipe is good provided you completely cool the cake before frosting it. I used this on the simple white cake recipe from this website and let it sit until it hardened. next time I think I might add just a little more vanilla and perhaps one or two drops of lemon extract just to give it a little kick without having an obvious lemony flavor.
