A Dash of This

Ahhh, butter.

I'm sorry folks, but if you try to feed me margarine, I'm gonna cringe. There is no substitute for butter. I don't care how much 'buttery flavor' you try and cram into your margarine....it's NOT THE SAME and I'll be able to tell!

I grew up on butter. My mother uses it, my grandmother used it, and I'm sure my great-grandmother used it too. I remember our family being invited over for dinner at friends' homes and when we'd get home, Mom would say "did you see? Did you!?!?! She was frying in margarine!!!! *GASP*"   So from a very young age, it was pretty much drilled into my head that margarine was the work of the devil.  I can't say I disagree with that sentiment.

When I bake, I always use butter. I will not substitute, no exceptions. If you tell me you're allergic to butter, you can go eat somewhere else. ;) I don't even buy margarine, and have no intention of every buying it.  Cooking is all about flavor, and if the flavor's not there, neither are your guests.

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, butter in both hands, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, “WOO HOO what a ride!” - Me.
Ahhh, butter.

About Me
I'm a 39 yr old foodie currently living in Aurora, IL. I'm very fortunate in that I have plenty of friends and family who will try everything I make, and I'm constantly using them as my guinea pigs! I was born and raised in Canada by my French Canadian parents. I grew up eating a lot of French Canadian foods, and I just love getting home to Canada to taste mom's delicious cooking. She has always inspired me to cook.
My cooking triumphs
Planning and making a 6 course meal for hubby's business associates who were in town on business. Not only was this the most time-consuming meal I've ever made, it was my first time meeting all of them! Stressful day, but a huge success!
My cooking tragedies
Hmm...how about reaching into the oven to take out the Thanksgiving turkey and having the pan collapse, dumping the turkey and scorching liquids onto my bare feet. YEEEE-OUCH!
