I'm sorry folks, but if you try to feed me margarine, I'm gonna cringe. There is no substitute for butter. I don't care how much 'buttery flavor' you try and cram into your margarine....it's NOT THE SAME and I'll be able to tell!
I grew up on butter. My mother uses it, my grandmother used it, and I'm sure my great-grandmother used it too. I remember our family being invited over for dinner at friends' homes and when we'd get home, Mom would say "did you
see? Did you!?!?! She was frying in margarine!!!! *GASP*" So from a very young age, it was pretty much drilled into my head that margarine was the work of the devil. I can't say I disagree with that sentiment.
When I bake, I always use butter. I will not substitute, no exceptions. If you tell me you're allergic to butter, you can go eat somewhere else. ;) I don't even buy margarine, and have no intention of every buying it. Cooking
is all about flavor, and if the flavor's not there, neither are your guests.
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the
intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways,
butter in both hands, body
thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, “WOO HOO what a ride!” - Me.
