We don't normally celebrate Halloween at our house, since we don't have kids and we're usually invited elsewhere for parties. This year, I decided to spice things up a bit and make a couple Halloween treats and invite some friends over.  It really didn't take much planning at all, and before… MORE

About this Cook
I'm a 39 yr old foodie currently living in Aurora, IL. I'm very fortunate in that I have plenty of friends and family who will try everything I make, and I'm constantly using them as my guinea pigs! I was born and raised in Canada by my French Canadian parents. I grew up eating a lot of French Canadian foods, and I just love getting home to Canada to taste mom's delicious cooking. She has always inspired me to cook.
My cooking triumphs
Planning and making a 6 course meal for hubby's business associates who were in town on business. Not only was this the most time-consuming meal I've ever made, it was my first time meeting all of them! Stressful day, but a huge success!
My cooking tragedies
Hmm...how about reaching into the oven to take out the Thanksgiving turkey and having the pan collapse, dumping the turkey and scorching liquids onto my bare feet. YEEEE-OUCH!

Sweet and Sour Asparagus
I really liked the cinnamon/clove/celery seed combo. A very different way to have asparagus and quite tasty. Like another reviewer, I felt it was better with a bit of salt. I also discovered I don't really care for cold asparagus, so I recommend room temp as suggested in the recipe description.

Herbed Yogurt Dip
This is far from bland. As with any homemade dip, make this ahead of time to let the flavors develop. If you make it 5 mins before you need it, of course it's not going to have much flavor. I tasted this about 4 hours after I made it and it was very flavorful. The next day it was delicious! I like the combo of the herbs used and the versatility to substitute or add others. I made it exactly as written and I made a half recipe. I love that unlike envelope dip mixes, this isn't loaded with sodium and other preservatives. Plus it's healthy! I used non-fat Greek yogurt and it was nice and thick. The only suggestion I would make it to cut back a bit on the fresh garlic because once the dip sits for a while, it gets very garlicky!

Lucky's Quickie Chickie
I'm amazed that such a quick dish could be SO delicious! I couldn't stop eating this, and ended up stuffed! I do have to say that this recipe would make 2 very skimpy servings. (6 ounces of tenderloins as called for in the recipe ended up being 2 tenderloins which in my opinion is enough for one person, not two, so make more!) The package of chicken I bought was enough to triple this recipe so I made the whole package, and I'd say that made a good amount for 3 people. I will make this often! YUM!
