About this Cook
I've been cooking since before I started school. Gramma got to me early! My Mom would make a dish and say, "Cher, fix this..." (usually needed seasoning.) When my toddler and hubby want 2nds, I did good! I like surprising myself with what I can create. I hate following the directions. Recipes can ALWAYS be tweaked!
My favorite things to cook
Anything that doesn't make it to leftovers, and anything that uses as few pans to wash as possible...but that never goes as planned!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Gramma's spice cake. At least an 80 year old family recipe. Also we are addicted to brown sugar pie (an old "hillbilly" family recipe-that took me about 20 years to get right!) and my "Oh, my god, that's chocolatey" brownies.
My cooking triumphs
PERFECT brown sugar pie! Spice cake where the raisins don't sink. Figuring out my Gramma's "tricks" and recipes.
My cooking tragedies
20+ years of brown sugar pie. Breads in general and about half the time, any meat besides roasts and loafs.

Special Buttercream Frosting
This is "wedding cake" frosting. I used it to make "ice cream cone cupcakes" for my son's pre-school class. The theory being, "They only eat the frosting anyway, so let's give 'em three inches of messiness to sugar up on!" Seriously, a delicious recipe and VERY EASY to make and use. I used Butter Crisco quarters and it worked perfect and completely NOT too greasy.

Granny Kat's Pumpkin Roll
MESSY! (sprinkling towel with pow. sugar) and you have to watch it closely in the oven because it is so thin, but it was a hit! I've made it two Christmases in a row because now that my Mom knows I can make it, she's absolutely addicted!

Tim's Green Bean Casserole Extraordinaire
Had this for Thanksgiving. I love that it is not the tradional casserole that we are so burnt out on! Of course, anything that calls for cheese and sour cream is a hit in out house!
