About this Cook
Married for 40 years. I have 2 sons (in their 30's), eldest is married to our beautiful,loving daughter and they have 1 terrifically, special, loving 3 year old son. My other son is single and just as special as his brother. I divide my time between my Lord Jesus, family, friends,and part time work.
My favorite things to cook
I like to bake pies, cookies, and cakes. I also like to cook from new recipes, main meat dishes, such as Port Roast with John Hopping Stuffing. I like to try new recipes for snacks, as well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Always wear an apron. Anyone who helps in my kitchen has to wear an apron. I always have extras. So many people know this that I get aprons as gifts for birthdays, Christmas, or just because they love me.
My cooking triumphs
My biggest triumph was preparing from scratch a full Thanksgiving Dinner from the Julia Child's Cooking Show with Jacques Pepin. On the menu was: Deconstructed Turkey, Giblet Gravy, Cornbread and Sage Stuffing, Cranberry Chutney, Mashed Potatoes, Peas, Corn, Rolls, Pumpkin Pie, Agua de Jamiaca, and other minor dishes. The dinner came out perfect. I had the privilege of feeding about 30 family and friends and the grateful thanks from everyone. My thanks was to the God of Isaac, Abraham and Jacob.
My cooking tragedies
I will never forget the time I made 2 beautiful Lemon Meringue pies. You know the feeling of working on something and thinking you are forgetting something but you can't remember what. Halfway through the recipe I began to think, What did forget? For the life of me I couldn't remember. So I continued all the way to baking the pies. Then while the pies were in the oven and I was cleaning up, I found out what I was missing. There on the counter was the measuring cup with the lemon juice I was suppose to put in the filling. Wow! What a mistake. My guys and a friend would not let me throw the pies away, so the ate them and they liked them. I don't know why or how they did it. Sometimes guys will eat anything, if they are hungry enough.
