My cooking triumphs
Thanksgiving 2012 ~ Grandma was not feeling well and was having difficulties getting around in the kitchen. I've never made a turkey so she had asked me to make the turkey. I came to Allrecipes to look up a turkey brine and selected the "Grandmas Farmhouse Turkey Brine". Everyone loved the turkey. It was very moist and full of flavor. Even I, a non turkey lover, enjoyed the turkey. Go figure....
My cooking tragedies
Age 10 ~ My dad was working 2-3 jobs at a time trying provide a good life for his 3 children (my sister, brother, and myself)as a single dad. I called myself making dinner for the family and decided that I was going to make fried cube steak with gravy and mashed potatoes. How hard could it be right? I watched my dad cook all the time. Well let's just say that the oil was too high so the outside appeared done. I could not figure out how he made his gravy brown. I put loads of flour in the pan adding water and butter. A gooey mess.... Still beigy white. So I decided to add cinnamon to it for color. After smothering the undercooked cube steaks, there were streaks of pink in it from the blood. When my dad arrived home, I plated that mess (I thought that it was a success back then) and he thanked me and I wouldn't leave until he took a bite. He took a fork full of the cube steak, gravy, and mashed potatoes and ate it. Oh what parents will do for their children, lol. I love him dearly!!

No Fail Bean Pie
Thank you Jolli for sharing this recipe. I have been looking for a bean pie recipe for years that was similar to the taste that I grew up with. This is nostalgic because this taste exactly the way I remember it way back in the 70's.
