Pork Chops for the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
We did not like this. I halved the soy sauce and added honey but otherwise. Followed the recipe but it cooked on low for 10 hours so ihad added some water because I was worried it might dry out. All I could taste was soy sauce and it was just too salty. Thanks anyway, but we won't be making this again.

French Breakfast Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2010
I was disappointed with these. I guess I should have listened to the reviews that said they were dense, but they were also rather dry and I had to smear more butter on them to eat them. Will not be making again, thanks anyway!

Tomato Pasta Toss

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2009
This is perfect for using up tomatoes. Easy, quick and tasty is exactly right. I added some crumbled cooked bacon and it was a perfect dinner for one. My garlic was not so fresh any longer so it was a bit pungent, but thats not the recipes fault. I will definitely make this again!

Shrimp Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2009
This was really good! I was sick and tired of the bottled or package stir fry sauces and decided to give this a shot! It's a great base sauce, but does need a little extra zip. Not too salty or sweet. I added some fresh ginger w/the fresh garlic. Skipped the oriental vegetables and just used broccoli, red pepper, green onion and there was plenty of sauce. I chopped the peanuts but I think next time I will leave them whole and I may try to marinate the shrimp in the suace first as one reviewer suggested to hopefully give it that missing oomph!

Swiss Chicken Casserole II

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2009
I discovered too late that I did not have cream of chicken soup so I was forced to substitute low sodium, low fat cream of mushroom soup. It was quite bland and salty. Would not make again, even w/the cream of chicken. It was just kinda funky.

Beef Bourguignon II

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2009
We did not like this at all. I halved the recipe because there are only 2 of us and I didn't have any carrots. Also skipped the extra onions and mushrooms at the end.

Sloppy Joes I

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2009
I have never been a big fan of sloppy joes and couldn't understand why. I have tried probably a dozen different recipes and most have been tolerable but this was just what I've been looking for all my life. My husband first told me about using chicken gumbo soup and I thought it sounded bizarre, but it's really really good. We actually use closer to one cup of ketchup and 1 or 2 Tbsp of mustard, skip the water and put it in a crockpot on low for an hour or two. I ate 3 of them, yummy!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2009
Really good. These always turn out for me. I never sift anything (don't have a sifter) but I do always warm the milk and there are never any complaints. Thanks for a great recipe!

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2009
This was a lifesaver! We were having guest for dinner and were planning to have spaghetti and at the last minute I learned that one of the guests was allergic to tomatoes!! So I fixed this with some sauteed chicken for her and it was a hit. I had the leftovers for lunch the next day, it wasn't pretty because of course all the ingredients separated but it still tasted fine. I liked this a lot better than any of the store bought alfredo sauces I've tried.

Breaded Ranch Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2009
This was pretty good, but the ranch flavor was pretty subdued. I only made 3 breasts so I set aside half the breading in the fridge to use at another time. I think the chicken did not need to cook QUITE that long, maybe 35 minutes would have been enough. It was good, but not very moist and juicy.

Easy Mushroom Rice

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2009
I'm obviously in the minority here, but this recipe did not do anything for me. It was waaaaaaaaay too salty and just kind of blah. As another reviewer said, I prefer Rice-a-Roni to this. Will not be making again.

Pork Roast with Tangy Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2009
yum! we are not big pork fans but my husband won a pork roast at a meat raffle so I thought I'd give this a whirl and I'm glad i did! I used a little less ketchup, I overcooked the roast and glaze, didn't bother to mix in pan drippings, but it still tasted great! I might have to buy a pork roast just to make this again! its also very easy which is important w/a baby in the house, not quite a one handed operation but pretty close! served w/au gratin potatoes from a box and a can of green beans.. better than i expected!

Easy French Dip Sandwiches

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2008
This was really good for being so incredibly simple. I just don't make complicated recipes so this is right up my alley and uses ingredients I tend to have on hand already. Today I used au jus mix in the packet with only 2 1/2 cups water instead of 3. I also used a roasted garlic artisan bread because that is what I had on hand and it was delicious!!

Sauteed Apples

Tastes just like apple pie without the crust. I served these alongside Sage Pork Chops with mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans and it was all delicious!

Smoked Sausage and Zucchini Saute

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2008
I really wanted some new and different things to do with smoked sausage and this fit the bill for us perfectly. I think it is best with fresh from the garden plump juicy tomatoes and I NEVER heat the tomatoes (personal preference), just plop them on top of the brown rice simmered w/a cube of chicken boullion and the sausage/zucchini mixture and if the tomatoes are juicy enough you will have some moisture. When tomatoes aren't in season, a can of tomatoes works but it really brings the rating down a notch, I think. It's a quick and easy weeknight meal with lots of good veggies. I suppose you could add all sorts of other yummy veggies, too. I seve with french bread on the side and cut watermelon for desert!

Basil Shrimp

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2008
Not sure what all the fuss is about, this wasn't too great to us. Now granted I did not have all the fresh ingredients so I'm giving the recipe the benefit of the doubt w/3 stars, as I prepared it was 2 stars. I did NOT have fresh basil so I used 3 Tbsp dried basil, and 3 Tbsp lemon juice from a plastic lemon and I also skipped the butter entirely. I marinated for about 30 minutes, just while the grill heated up. I also used thawed frozen shrimp. Perhaps my skimping on freshness really ruined it, but if you don't have fresh ingredients, it probably is worth waiting til you get them because it is certainly edible, but rather disappointing.

Hot Ham 'n' Cheese

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2008
We were rather disappointed with these. I was expecting better w/all the rave reviews but we didn't care for them much. They weren't BAD, just not what I was expecting I guess. I followed the directions exactly except I omitted the poppy seeds only because I didn't have any. We used leftover roast ham from yesterday that was glazed w/dijon mustard and brown sugar...maybe that made it taste different?? I can't imagine that it's that unusual a glaze...

Bev's Orange Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2008
This was sooooo easy and smelled WONDERFUL while cooking. I bit into the onions in the onion soup and that was kinda gross, but the chicken was pretty dang good! I will make this again! *update, I made this again and added some diced mushrooms and I did not like it as much this time, not sure if it was the mushrooms or what, but I would not put them in again, personally.

Ham Salad Spread

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2008
Very good! I only had 1 1/2 cups of ham, and did not have any pickles/relish so skipped that. Otherwise, I kept all original measurements w/less ham. I ate most of it right away and only when I went to write my review did I realize I totally forgot the mustard! I only had dijon, and it definitely adds depth to the flavor. Can't wait to take the leftovers to work in a sandwich tomorrow!
