Simple Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2003
This bread is DELICIOUS! What I did differently was add a mixture of seeds such as sunflower, sesame, and whatever else was in the mixture. Also I add 1 cup of oats. I replace the butter with un-sweetened applesauce, and I don't use as much honey. I think the amount of honey the recipe calls for makes the bread too sweet. This bread does not need to be kneaded on a flour surface. I knead it in the bowl. After kneading, make sure your bowl is buttered so that the dough won't stick when you let it rise. *** NEW BREAD MAKERS:*** Take 5-8 minutes to knead your bread. It's properly kneaded when it's smooth as a baby's butt. You will know when your bread is done when you insert a thermometer and it reaches 190-200F. If you don't have a thermometer, knock on the bread. If it makes thud noise, it's not done. It should sound hollow. As soon as the bread is done, remove from pan immediately and let it cool on a wire rack. If you leave it in the pan, the steam will make the bread soggy and it'll mold on the bottom!

Delicious Healthy Strawberry Shake

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2004
This is pretty good. I didn't have frozen strawberries, so I used fresh ones instead and ice cubes. I used only half of the milk so that I'd have a thicker shake. Next time, I think I'll use artificial sugar instead of honey. The honey doesn't go well with strawberries! For a creamy shake, you can also use about 1/2 cup of plain non fat yogurt.

American Girl's Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: May 22, 2003
Simple recipe. I altered it a little. I only used 1/2 cup of sugar. This recipe was plenty sweet just with the amount of sugar I used in it. I can't possibly imagine using 1 1/2 cups of sugar! And I added cinnamon to the peaches and allspice to the batter. Also I used soy milk instead of regular milk. I cooked this recipe in a glass pan and it took about 20 minutes longer than what the original time calls for. The next time that I make this, I think I'll add vanilla to the batter like one of the other reviewers suggested. I tasted the batter before I put anythiing in it, and it tasted to dull. So play with your spices and doctor it up a little!

Pineapple Carrot Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2004
I liked this recipe because it didn't use mayonaise. I didn't put any of the sugar in it. I think it's sweet just with the yogurt and pineapples in it.

Apple Yogurt Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2004
Oh my goodness! These are so good! I substituted 1 cup of flour for oats for extra fiber and added the remaining amount of flour. I used applesauce instead of oil, and I added about a half teaspon of apple pie spice. I used light plain yogurt. And instead of chopping my apple, I grated it. I also added artificial sweetner to the batter. If you choose to use sugar, try with about 1 tablespoon at first.

Mrs. Baker's Sticky Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: May 31, 2004
If your looking for a BASIC recipe for cinnamon rolls, this is it.I followed this recipe exactly. It was easy to make and mix by hand. These rolls were good, but not fantastic or anything to rave about. This recipe is about like a biscuit with cinnamon and sugar. Maybe if you add your own things such as walnuts or whatever, it'll make it more interesting.

Honey Mustard Tofu

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2004
I love honey mustard, but this recipe was AWFUL! I followed the suggestions of other reviews and coated my tofu in egg and made the sauce seperately. Whew, am I glad that I did! I ended up not using the sauce because it was inedible and I made a completely different sauce.

Tasty Buns

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2004
These are good buns! I added honey instead of sugar and used more wheat flour. I brushed the tops of the dough with egg wash. (egg whites plus 1 tbsp of water) Following the advice of one of the reviews, I measured out my dough to 6.5 oz, so that I could have all same sized buns. I ended up with Jumanji sized buns! If you want the size that are sold in stores, then use your scale and measure about 3 oz of dough, or a bit bigger than a golf ball size. After rising it'll still be a pretty good size bun.

Best Lemonade Ever

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2003
This is a delicious recipe. It was a little too sweet and too tart for me. After some minor adjustments, it turned out to be perfect. I use 1 cup of sugar instead of what the original recipe calls for. I'm already making my second batch!

South Beach Chopped Salad with Tuna

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2004
This recipe appealed to me because it didn't require mayo. It didn't have a lot of flavor to it, but it was pretty ok. I had only one lime and substituted with the rest with lemon. I didn't put in the radishes because I don't like them. This recipe needs *something*, but I'm not quite sure what it's missing.

Aargau Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2003
Delicious and very moist cake! I changed the recipe slightly. I didn't have lemon zest, so I used orange peel and orange juice instead of lemon juice. I loved the orange taste. Next time I make this, I'll use 1/2 cup of sugar instead of the 3/4. It's way too sweet with the icing. I do think this cake will taste just as good if not better without the icing ***UPDATE*** I've made this cake 2 more times since I wrote the original review. I still love this cake. What I've learned is that the cake pan must be lined with wax paper or something. EVERY time I've made this cake it sticks to the pan even after oiling and flouring it.

I used this recipe for my daughter's birthday party in second grade. Everyone loved them! I used the icing in a tube to create a soft ice-cream affect.

Pumpkin Bread IV

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2004
I cut the sugar by 1 cup. The next time I'll reduce the cloves by 1/2 tsp. I thought the cloves were a bit over-powering. But over all, this is a very good recipe. IT'S A KEEPER!

Hershey's ® 'Perfectly Chocolate' Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2004
For those of you who had problems with this recipe, it is because you either didn't follow the directions or you substituted the ingredients. The only ingredient that can be substituted is the sugar. I reduced the sugar to 1/4 cup less. Also, you must mix the dry ingredients and wet ingredients seperately! I think this is a perfect cake! I didn't use the icing. I'm going to try another one. I greased my pan really well, and I had the same problem like the rest of you with my cake sticking to the pan. I didn't have any parchment paper, so I had to try any way without it.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies IV

Peanut Butter Balls III

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2005
As suggested by others, I reduced the powdered sugar and only used 1 cup of the powdered sugar (4 cups is too much) then I rolled the balls in the powdered sugar, and as for the rest I followed the recipe. These are sinfully good! They taste like crunchy Reese's peanut butter cups. They didn't taste too sweet and they had *just enough* peanut butter flavoring.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread I

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2004
D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S! I had to add more flour and I added 2.5 cups of raisins. When I rolled out the loaves to add the sugar and cinnamon mixture, I ended up with left-overs. I was afraid that it wouldn't be sweet enough. It turned out perfectly! It was just the right amount of sweetness. I'm glad that I didn't use all the sugar mixture! I will make this recipe again.
