Applesauce Doughnuts

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2010
They taste exactly like a doughnut hole shaped pumpkin muffin - good, but not what I was looking for. I am going to make them again, adding a cup of ricotta cheese for richness and NO cloves or nutmeg. I guess I wanted apple fritters.

Pizza Dough I

Reviewed: May 12, 2008
Easy easy. Used olive oil, 2 tsp garlic salt, mixed with dough hook in the Kitchenaid for 8 min. and covered and let rise while I did the dishes and the oven preheated. It's not super great but not bad either, esp. for a night when you have no other ingredients and no dinner plan! :)

German Spaetzle Dumplings

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2007
I just throw pinched off lumps of the dough in the water instead of making a noodle shape, they're very thick and chewy and filling. The best way to make about 25 cents worth of ingredients into a really good side dish!

Potato and Cheese Pierogi

This is like the recipe I use, but I use real cheddar and I add a big blob of sour cream to the dough. Also, half of them I make with sauerkraut filling!

Simple White Cake

I had the same cornbread texture problem, but it wasn't a bad cake once it's frosted. I'll try it again with cake flour, maybe the unbleached all purpose I used was the problem??

This recipe makes a HUGE pile of muffins. Perfect for taking to a classroom, there's plenty for everyone and they smell wonderful while they're baking.

Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2007
I used these in a cookie press, and they were excellent with jam as shortbread thumbprint type cookies, but the plain ones were a little too bland for my taste. I'll probably drizzle melted chocolate on the plain cookies.

Melt In Your Mouth Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2007
These were the first thing I made with my new cookie press, and they were really good - not too sweet, easy to press, quick to bake. The recipe made a million and I turned half of them into sandwich cookies with peanut butter and marshmallow cream. So good!

Chewy Coconut Cookies

I'm the one in my family that makes all the good cookies every Christmas - these are new to us but going into heavy rotation! I had to buy extra stuff since the first batch got eaten right away, and I needed some to give out in baskets. Thanks so much for this recipe!

I've had this recipe for more than 10 years now, and it's so great to make muffins with. If you need a ton of muffins for cheap, mix this up.

This is EXACTLY how my neighbor taught me to make these - we have them about once every 6 weeks or so (since they are a lot of work) and they are SO GOOD!

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2006
I used all purpose flour and a package of yeast - dumped everything but the flour in a stand mixer bowl and stirred, then with the flour and the dough hook let it run on meduim for about a minute. These turned out not so much like Cinnabon, but exactly like the canned "Grands" cinnamon rolls. We all loved them, thanks for the keeper!

Best Ever Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2005
Pull these out of the oven at the first sign of gold on top - if you get them out before they 'look' done, they'll be so much better. As long as they bounce back when you push down on the top, they're done enough. Mine needed about 19 minutes, I baked at 395. Great with frozen wild blueberries and a 1/4 tsp each lemon and vanilla extracts. Thank you Lori!

Ukrainian Olha's Varenyky (Perogies)

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2005
For those who haven't made these before, they taste so good if you boil them first, then remove with a slotted spoon to a skillet with onion browned in margarine and fry them until they're just getting brown on each side - they have a much better texture then. And if you think you don't like sauerkraut, try these anyway, you'll be surprised!

Grandmother's Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2005
I didn't have nuts, so I substituted 1/2 cup rolled oats. I also added nutmeg/cloves/cardamom (pinch of each)and 2 tablespoons of oil since it looked a little dry. These cookies were SO GOOD! The perfect texture, didn't spread too much, nice and chewy with crisp edges. A half recipe made 15 big cookies, we ate them all within a day. Thanks Sheryl!!

I use vanilla instead of almond, and whatever jam I have handy - I have given these out at Christmas and enjoyed them in the summertime, they're so easy to make. I have made these so often - thanks, Dee!!!

Best Moist Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2003
Not so chocolatetey the first time I made it (used unsweetened cocoa) but it was GREAT without the cocoa and add 1/2 tsp lemon extract - I served it with either powdered sugar on top or cream cheese frosting from the store - it really is a great moist cake, better than boxed mix.
