Baked Bar-be-que Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2011
The bar-be-que flavor does not penetrate into the chicken. Taste was very bland even though chicken was sprinkled w/salt, pepper, and barbecue seasonings before baking. Pretty much tasted like boiled chicken with bar-b-q sauce on the top. Will not be making this again, sorry

Kung Pao Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2011
This is a pretty authentic recipe. I've made this couple of times. First, with Shaoshing wine and the last with white wine. Believe it or not, the white wine tasted much more authentic in this recipe. I used the siracha chile paste and it was perfect. I used thighs instead of breast since it's less dry in stir-fry. Didn't use peanuts since kids are not fans. Added a green and red pepper with fresh water chestnuts and tripled the recipe, except for the heat and corn starch.

Crab Legs with Garlic Butter Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2009
It was alright, wasn't as garlicky as I would have liked. It was a little on the salty side after doubling the sauce recipe for 2 lbs of crab legs. I used dungeness crab, don't know if that made a difference. In my opinion, I think the snow crab legs would have been saltier. Thanks, anyways. I don't think I will make again.

Cola Pot Roast I

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2008
I used 4 cloves of fresh minced garlic, 1 cup of coke, 1/2c red wine, 2-14.5 oz cans of stewed tomatoes and 1-6oz can of tomato paste with 4 lbs of beef roast and it was not sweet at all. I even had to put in 2 tbsp of brown sugar to round off the taste. Browned the meat first, then cut it in 1.5" x 1.5" chunks. Simmered in stockpot on stove for 3.5-4 hrs and it was so tender. Also added in 1 lb of baby carrots, 3 celery stalks, and 2 large potatoes. My husband could not believe I made it with coke. I liked this recipe more as opposed to the other coke roast recipe since it's tomato instead of creamed soup based. Thanks for the recipe. Will definitely make again.

Mom's Sweet Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2008
This was very good for homemade taste. Added a pound of fresh mushrooms quartered. I doubled all of the ingredients including the bacon. Drained all of the bacon drippings except for what I needed to just coat the pan and added 2 cans of diced tomatoes for texture and only used 1-8 oz can of tomato sauce, and 2 cans of tomato paste. I used 2.5 lbs of lean ground beef and still only kept the sugar at 1/4 cup, which is plenty. Also, used 8 cloves of minced garlic when browning the beef and the vegetables. Thanks for the recipe.

Vanilla - Chocolate Powdered Sugar Frosting

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2007
I gave this only 3 stars because the taste was very sweet (even with extra milk added)and slightly gritty even though I mixed it with a electric hand mixer. The spreadability was very good. I tasted the frosting at first without adding the cocoa and it was very good although sweet. I actually prefer it over the chocolate. That says a lot for a chocoholic such as myself. Added 3 TBS of unsweetened cocoa for a more defined chocolate taste. Would make again but only use 1.5 cups of sugar. It easly made enough for 24 cupcakes. Thanks for the recipe.

Teriyaki Marinade

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2006
vERY GOOD MARINADE. USED IT TO MARINADE DRUMSTICKS WHICH I BAKED AND NOT GRILLED. I AM SURE IT WOULD BE SUPERB ON THE GRILL. ALSO, BOILED MINE ON THE COOKTOP AND THICKENED IT W/CORNSTARCH. SAVED SOME AS DIPPING SAUCE. TASTE BETTER THAN STORE BOUGHT, I THINK. THANKS FOR SHARING.

Teriyaki Marinade with Ginger and Garlic

Reviewed: May 19, 2006
This was all right but a little bit more tangy and acidic tasting than I was hoping for. The teriyaki marinade III on this website tasted better to me. I also added a 1/4c of O.J. and a little more honey to decrease the tanginess. Thanks for sharing.

Caramelized Baked Chicken

Reviewed: May 7, 2006
This does have a wierd smell to it while baking. The flavor is just okay and you can definitely have the soy sauce and honey for the sauce.

Ginger Orange Glazed Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2006
I marinaded chicken overnight and used drumsticks instead of wings (hubby's preference) and they turned out pretty well. Still not a lot of orange flavor--maybe I will try to put some orange marmalade or zest with marinade next time. Yes, I will make it again!!!

Asian Orange Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2006
I would not call this an orange chicken dish simply because it did not taste like any orange chicken I have tasted and I am Asian. It was more of a sweet and sour chicken. When I try out recipes for the first time, I usually follow them to the tee making very few modifications if any to be fair. All in all, I may make this one more time but I probably won't drench in flour next time (just marinade overnight as I did this time)and see if that works better.

Chicken Breasts Pierre

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2006
I was definitely disappointed by the flavor after reading all the great reviews. Followed recipe exactly and it tasted wierd--all the flavors did not blend well for me. Also, the "sauce" is very thin. I will not be making this again.

Maria's Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2006
This was an easy recipe. Used 1 green and 1 red pepper for presentation. Did not have red wine vinegar---subbed 1/2 rice and 1/2 cider instead. It was a little sweet for me. Will definitely make again using a little less honey. Thanks for the recipe.

Meaty Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2006
I MADE THIS RECIPE TODAY ALTHOUGH I OMITTED THE PEPPERONI (PERSONAL PREFERENCE). I ALSO DOUBLED THE BEEF SINCE I DID NOT HAVE PORK ON HAND. THE FLAVOR WAS A BIT BLAND (I LIKE IT W/ SPICES). DID NOT PUT IN BEEF BROTH SINCE IT WAS THIN ENOUGH AS IS. IT'S A GOOD BASE BUT I WILL TRY OTHERS.
