About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Discada, dutch oven, potjiekos, salmon, hallibut, beef stew, pork roasts, biscuits and gravy, ham and beans with cornbread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I am trying to find recipes for the foods I had in my youth. My maternal Grandmother made out of this world mincemeat pie, sourdough bread, among other old fashioned things. I never watched the whole process of doing these things so it takes a while to bring back the delicious flavors. Mom, the other hand I did watch and can cook a lot of her dishes in a satisfactory way. Fortunately I can still get her recipes. Now I share my successes with relatives.
My cooking triumphs
Sourdough bread, canning salsa, making aebleskivers, cooking chili and cornbread, biscuits and gravy. Sauerbraten, bierocks, spare ribs and kraut. Learning about discada and potjie cooking.
My cooking tragedies
Burning the bottom clear through an aluminum sauce pan, when I forgot about it. (Why I hate electric stoves)

Mongolian Beef and Spring Onions
Wow! Good stuff, cut back slightly on the sugar and it is better than any we have ever had. It will be a repeat treat. Thank you vkarlson.

Sweet and Sour Pork III
Recipes like this make me appear to be a good cook. It got raves from the family and everone had seconds or thirds. The only problem was the lack of leftovers.

Mom's Simple Dumplings
Aptly named, yet so very good, this is definately a keeper. The family gorged themselves on my chicken and dumplings. I will try some in a stew next. Keep in mind that these will thicken your broth.
