Cornish Game Hens with Rice Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2004
Delicious! I made a few modifications to the recipe. I used a regular 4 lb. chicken, and added rosemary, oregano, and black pepper to the outside of the bird. I also substituted celery for the almonds in the stuffing (don't care for almonds) and added a clove of minced garlic. The stuffing is good enough to serve as a stand-alone side dish. This made a wonderful meal on a chilly autumn evening, thanks for posting it!

Sour Cream Chicken Quiche

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2004
Very good, pretty easy prep too. I omitted the green pepper and added broccoli to suit my family's tastes. Next time I think I will add more sharp cheddar as it wasn't cheesy enough for my tastes, also might cut down on the black pepper. Anyway we had no leftovers!

Beef Tips

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2003
Came out great! I heeded the advice of others and cut out the additional salt, and I always use low-sodium soy sauce anyway. I have found the key to the best flavor is to simmer it at a higher temperature (I set it between low and medium,) keeping it lightly boiling. The meat becomes delightfully tender and the sauce reduces to a rich and slightly spicy perfection. Also I let it continue to simmer for about 20-30 minutes after I add the gravy mix, before bringing it up to a rolling boil so it can thicken. Hope this helps somebody! We LOVE this recipe!

Mongolian Beef I

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2004
Made it for my family and my dad had 4 helpings! Instead of just putting 1 T of soy sauce over the beef strips, I marinated them in 1/2 C soy, plus the garlic and cornstarch. Then before I stir-fried it, I strained off most of the excess soy sauce. Worked fine, but I did have to add a little extra cornstarch at the end to get the sauce to thicken. This is definitely a keeper, thanks for the recipe!

Egg Fried Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2003
Quite good, needs a little more egg in my opinion. But I will tinker with it as I will definitely be making it again. My toddler loves the fried rice at our favorite Chinese restaurant, and often asks me for "rice and peas" for lunch, so I've been looking for a good recipe. This is the best one I've found.

Beef Pot Pie III

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2003
Very good! 100 times better than the frozen kind. Needed a little more salt and pepper added at the serving stage, but I will know next time to add extra to the gravy as it thickens. I will definitelty be adding this one to the family menu!

Easy Beef Goulash

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2004
Delicious! I've never had goulash before so I don't know how it compares to a traditional recipe, but we sure enjoyed this one. My two-year-old inhaled the pasta! After reading some of the other reviews, I decided to thicken mine with cornstarch rather than flour so I could add a lot without ruining the flavor. Served with homemade black bread, yummy!

Monkey Bread I

SOOOO yummy, just like cinnamon rolls only much easier and quicker to make! I can't wait to make it again and have my 2 year-old help me, I'm sure she'll get a kick out of shaking the biscuit pieces in the bag. I think I'll try nuts in the next batch, too. Think I might go get some more...mmm!

BLT Pizza

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2004
AWESOME, so quick and easy and soooo delicious! I had some Ready Bacon on hand, so I just snipped it into 1/4" pieces with my kitchen shears and tossed it on. Doubled up on the bacon, tomatoes, and mayo. When I went to make the dressing, I whisked together the mayo, 1/2 tsp. of garlic salt, and 1/4 tsp. of pepper with a little bit of water to make it easier to coat the lettuce. Pleased all of the adults and 2 out of 3 kids. This is gonna be a new family favorite! Thanks AMYAME!

Julia's Easy Slow Cooker Chicken

Very tasty, moist and filling! I substituted cream of brocolli soup as I'm not a mushroom eater, and it came out great. Even the kids loved it.

Chicken Lo Mein

Very good! I made it with red wine vinegar as it turned out I didn't have any rice vinegar, and it came out fine. A little sweeter than I was anticpating but it worked in a pinch. My 2-year old loved it too! This is definitely a keeper!

Kraft's Burritos Grande

DELICIOUS! And relatively easy to prepare too. If you add pico de gallo and rice, and cook them on a griddle on the stovetop, they taste almost exactly like Taco Bell's grilled burritos.

Taco Pizza

THIS IS DELICIOUS!! I used refridgerated pre-made crust since I don't have a bread machine, and it was a little soggy because of all the toppings. But other than that it was perfect. We'll definitely be making this one again!

Slow Cooker Lemon Garlic Chicken II

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2003
Awesome, easy and DELICIOUS! A definite "keeper." My only suggestion is for people who have a large slow cooker (mine is a 6-qt.) you may want to make 2-3 times as much of the lemon juice mixture as the amount suggested in the recipe, as that much barely even wet the bottom of my cooker. As a result the chicken was a little drier than I expected. But the flavor was still wonderful! Went great over rice with brocolli on the side. BTW for those of you watching your fat intake, you can add the lemon juice mixture directly to the slow cooker, without mixing in the pan drippings, and it tastes exactly the same. (Discovered this by accident when I forgot that step!)

Chinese Roast Chicken with Gravy

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2004
Scrumptious!! I made the following modifications after reading the reviews: I reduced the soy sauce to 1/2 C and the sesame oil to 1/4 C, I also added 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper and 1/4 each garlic powder and ground ginger to the soy sauce before brushing it onto the chicken. I added about 1/2 C of chicken broth to the pan to prevent the burnt taste that several others have complained about. My bird came out perfectly cooked and beautifully browned, and the gravy is heavenly! I would recommend the leftovers for a Chinese chicken salad... would've tried it myself but we had none! I do have lots of leftover gravy as the kids weren't interested in it, so I think next week I will brush the gravy over chicken breasts and oven bake them. Thanks for the recipe Lisamarie, it's definitely a keeper!! P.S. Serve it over Egg Fried Rice by Krista B from this site... you will be glad you did!

Sorta Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2003
Pretty good, enough unlike the TV dinner type salisbury steak that I gave it a try. I salted and peppered the steaks before coating them in flour. The kids all ate it, which makes it a winner in my book. P.S. I just made this for the second time and increased the worchestershire sauce to 3 Tbs. That brings it up to a "5 star" recipe! We had no leftovers!
