I love cooking for vast numbers of people, grandchildren, etc. I usually make at least 3 desserts, 3 side dishes, fresh rolls, you name it. My roast parsnips ('snips) are legendary (well, in the minds of my family!)
My favorite things to cook
Good home cooked meals. Mostly the basics but I do get adventurous a couple of times a year.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Huge holiday gatherings. My son has been making the turkey gravy for about 30 years whilst the youngest (29 years) makes the fresh rolls/breads, etc. The other 2 daughters make the table look beautiful and I don't do the clean-up! I love making sauces for just about anything.
My cooking triumphs
A most impressive looking chocolate, orange and hazelnut vacherin came out very well. I have also enjoyed making a croquembouche. Even the assembly is fun. I like to use small fruits, and sugared flowers to decorate. Being British I cookl a mean grouse!
My cooking tragedies
Oh my! There have been many over the years. Don't ask me to make a souffle or ham. I'm still not sure why but they just don't work for me. I cook with an AGA so baking can be problematical sometimes. The annual gingerbread house is never stable but I think that's because of the port that goes along with the making of it!
