Cheddar Bacon Hamburgers

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2011
These were really disappointing. I made them for my husband's birthday and was expecting something really great, but they were just an average burger. The bacon bits couldn't be tasted and the cheese in the burger didn't add anything. I won't bother making these again.

Black Bean Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2011
My celiac friend said these were great, and my kids loved them too. It was nice to find a brownie recipe that wasn't full of fat and sugar. I woudl definitely make these again, with icing.

French Toast Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2011
I followed the directions to the letter- no additions or substitutions. My kids (2,3,4) loved it. It was such a treat for them to have for lunch with grilled ham on the side. Leftovers (not many) reheated with syrup were great the next day. So easy- what a great way to use up any stale homemade bread. We'll be adding this one to our regular rotation.

Pumpkin Pancakes

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2010
I loved these, but my husband and kids were not impressed with the deviation from the bagged buttermilk mix. I did follow one reviewers suggestion to just add pumpkin and spices to the bagged mix. MUCH easier than starting them from scratch. I will make them again and do the same shortcut.

Beef Tenderloin With Roasted Shallots

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2010
This was a good recipe. I made it for a 40th anniversary dinner, but wish that I had had an opportunity to do a test run on it. However, I wasn't about to do a practice meal with a $75 piece of beef! I doubled the sauce as per many people's suggestion, and it was NOT necessary. Also, I did not put any herbs on the outside, and I don't think it took away anything from the dish. My one complaint is that I had to run all over the place to find shallots, and when I did, they were so expensive. I spent $25 on shallots to make double the sauce. However, they have such a unique flavour that I think it was worth it. Overall, a pretty good recipe.

Seasoned Turkey Burgers

These are awesome! I have made them several times, and always to great reviews. I actually like to double the recipe and make a bunch and freeze them. They cook great from frozen, and are always flavourful.

Mother's Rolls

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2010
This is a good recipe, if a bit time consuming to shape the rolls. I have made it with all whole wheat flour, and all multigrain flour, but I think you need to stick with at least half white flour to make them fluffy and not too dense.

Great recipe. I didn't even have rye flower, I had to substitute whole wheat and they were still delicious.

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2010
This recipe is AMAZING. I used all low-fat cheeses, and actually had to substitute plain non-fat yogurt because I didn't have any sour cream, and it still tasted delicious. Even my husband liked it, and he is a bona fide mac and cheese hater. I also cut the recipe in half, but used almost 8 ounces of cavatappi pasta instead of 4 ounces elbow macaroni. The ratio of sauce to pasta is great, and the flavour is wonderful. This is my new go-to mac and cheese recipe.

Good recipe. I think the next time I mae it, I will cut the amount of sugar in half, and doube the amount of garlic. Overall, though, it was great and easy enough to make that my 2.5 year old could help with every step.
