Hi! I'm Katy and 20 years old at the moment. I've been cooking since I was about 10 for my siblings and my family. I'm sarcastic and always laugh...Basically ready for anything. I work in a hotel in the kitchen. I'm in culinary school and am loving every minute of it! Family is the absolute most important thing to me so they are always my test subjects for my crazy cooking (for the good and the bad).
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy to cook the simple home cooking that my mother always cooked for me with a refined touch. Since starting culinary school I have learned a TON! Several of the things being to enhance flavor. Some of my favorites are buscuits and gravy, mashed potatoes, soups and sandwiches, spaghetti, maccaroni and cheese...If it has a stick of butter in it then I'll cook it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving! That was the holy grail of all food in my family. The recipe for our family gravy has been passed down since my great grandma...That was the one day where all of us gathered in the kitchen, drank wine and cooked all day.
My cooking triumphs
Boeuf bourguignon- It was my mother's 40th birthday and I spent hours in the kitchen making it from Julia Child's classic cookbook The Art of French Cooking. Julia Child really knew her stuff! This was the recipe that convinced me to (finally) got to culinary school.
My cooking tragedies
Homemade white cake- I was 14 and decided to cook a white cake from scratch. It fell in the middle and I sat and cried until I found a box of Betty Crocker cake mix and baked that. It was a sad day. :(

All-Day Apple Butter
At first this came out as sort of a thick applesauce...So I used my emulsion blender and after that it thickened right up and became a thick, wonderful, gooey apple butter. I also added about 1 1/2 tbs all together of cinnamon because I love it so much and it was amazing. My only problem is that I used only 3 cups of sugar and it still came out a tad too sweet. Next time I will use Granny Smith apples (because of the tartness) or use less sugar. Lovely stuff though!

Hollandaise Sauce
It was a decent hollandaise sauce. There was a bit to much lemon for my taste and there was quite a bit to much butter. It was very nearly greasy. I will add less of each of those next time and I'm sure it will be much better. Very simple to make though.

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies
Absolutely delcious! I made these for everyone in my company and they all absolutely loved them! I added a teaspoon extra cinnamon to mine because I love cinnamon...Turned out great!
