Butternut and Acorn Squash Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2014
I received a butternut squash and an acorn squash as part of a seasonal produce delivery and decided upon this recipe to use them. The procedure was fairly simple and the end product was SOOOOO GOOD!!! My husband doesn't usually like squash / sweet potato / pumpkin type foods, but he LOVED this. I plan to make it again on Thanksgiving!

Gnocchi with Sage-Butter Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2014
Very simple to make and very delicious! I had some fresh tomatoes that I needed to use up, so I chopped and added them to the saute process which gave it some nice texture, color and flavor.

Kickin' Collard Greens

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2014
I thought these were a little salty, but otherwise good. I would omit the extra salt since the bacon, chicken broth and red pepper flakes give it enough seasoning.

I have made this recipe for tailgating several times and it's always a hit! Perfect on a cold day when you want something hearty and filling.

Bodacious Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2014
My husband loves his mother's broccoli salad, so I attempted this recipe with the hopes of matching it. I succeeded and exceeded as he said it was better than his mother's recipe! I do recommend that you eat it within two days, because after that the ingredients are too soggy and melded to enjoy.

My Grandma's Shoo-Fly Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2014
I made this recipe and the Shoofly Pie V from this site on the same day to compare. The Grandma's pie was more traditional, but I liked the Shoofly Pie V recipe better. However, since there are so many wonderful desserts out there that I love, I most likely won't be making this again.

Rich Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2014
This is the perfect chocolate frosting. I have used it to top several cake & cupcake recipes, including "David's Yellow Cake" from this site.

David's Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2014
My father-in-law's favorite cake is yellow cake with chocolate frosting, so I made this and topped it with the "Rich Chocolate Frosting" from this site. The cake was amazing. Very moist and so much better than a box mix! This is now my go-to yellow cake recipe.

These are the perfect breakfast travel snack. I make them for camping or early morning tailgating gatherings and they don't last long!

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2014
I've made this bread twice in the past couple months. I love that the recipe makes two loaves because I bring one to work and the other is devoured at home. It's a great recipe as is, but I am thinking of adding chocolate chips next time!

Coquito

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2014
I made a double batch of this and brought it to work on Christmas Eve. It was a hit! Co-workers came back for seconds and asked for the recipe. A keeper.

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2012
I was always intimidated by baking pies. I decided to try this recipe and I'm glad I did. I made this pie four times over the holidays last year and plan to make it again this year. Unless you have small apples, 8 apples is way too many. I found that 4 medium sized apples fills the crust adequately. If you want an overstuffed pie, 6 medium sized apples should suffice.

Corn Pudding II

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2012
I've been making this recipe for Thanksgiving for almost a decade. Every year someone says, "You're making the corn pudding, right?". This recipe is a keeper. Because the baking time takes forever with the current recipe, I cut the milk down to three cups. It still takes about an hour to bake.

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2012
I made these for a cook-off at work and won 3rd place!!! My co-workers were complimenting me for days. I used a small cookie scoop to drop them onto the cookie sheet and flattened them out before putting them in the oven. I made a test batch and after letting them sit for a day they became really soggy. I baked the second batch longer, but they still end up being so moist that if you don't eat them within the first day, you end up eating them with a fork. It doesn't matter though because they taste great no matter what!

No Bake Cookies I

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2012
We were in the process for renovating our kitchen and I was looking for a recipe that didn't involve an oven. I made these to take to a weekend event and everyone liked them, but my niece especially loved them and ate half the batch! I thought they were just okay.

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2012
I wanted to try a new sweet potato recipe for Thanksgiving. I had used the same recipe for 15 years that was delicious, but I wanted something that had more of a mashed potato feel. This was PERFECT! It had the perfect texture and sweetness. I will be using this recipe for the next 15 years!

Extreme Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2010
I had a craving for chocolate cake, but hadn't been to the grocery store in a couple weeks and the pantry was down to bare bones. I didn't have the ingredients to make the chocolate cake that I usually make, so I found this recipe online and tried it. It was delicious! Exactly what I wanted. I added some mini chocolate chips on top for texture and substituted applesauce for the oil. I used dark chocolate cocoa powder so the color of my cake was very dark, but I prefer dark chocolate so to me it was perfect!

Mexican Fiesta Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2010
I coordinated a Mexican / Southwest themed tailgate party and made this salad. The only change I made was omitting the olives. It was easy to make and very good! I might add a little more "spice" the next time I make it.
