About this Cook
I designed my own home, AROUND my new kitchen, where I spend most of my time. I love trying new recipes and I have a family that doesnt mind being guinea pigs (thank goodness!).
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy serving up good ole down-home country cookin' the best. Its what gets the biggest raves. But for myself, I love Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. Im in heaven when Im baking up sweet goodies to share with friends and family.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year my best friend comes to visit me in November and we spend two days making all our favorite cookie and candy recipes. Then we each take half of what the other made so that we have a huge variety of goodies for the holidays. We used to include the kids when they were little. My kitchen was a mess at the end, but I have memories to last a lifetime.
My cooking triumphs
My best cooking triumph was winning a chili cook-off at the office years ago. I made my own recipe, which I call Vermont Chili. It has real maple syrup in it, so it starts out a little on the sweet side when you first taste it, but then the slow burn comes afterwards. Maybe Ill post the recipe someday!
My cooking tragedies
I was a newlywed and knew my hubby loved meatloaf. I'd never made one, so I found a recipe in my cookbook and proceeded to mix it up. To this very day, I don't know what I did wrong, but after the first bite, we literally POURED it out! Ive since found the Rempel Family Meatloaf recipe on this website and Im sticking to it!

Cream Cheese Frosting II
I iced a yummy dark chocolate cake for company; the cake looked lovely. But many of my guests (and myself) scraped the icing off, not complaining, but obviously not enjoying. I'm so sorry to not be able to give this recipe more stars. It just wasn't right for us. The best way I can describe the flavor is that it almost reminds me of a New York style cheesecake.

My Grandmother's French Dressing
As others suggested, I used Splenda (TM) sugar substitute, with just a smidge less than the recipe calls for. I also used Asian garlic infused rice vinegar. Perfect! I'll never buy French dressing again. This was so simple to whip up in the food processor! Thanks for the recipe!

Creamy Horseradish Garlic Spread
I was serving spaghetti with "The Best Meatballs You'll Ever Have" by BEARNESTA and a mixed spring greens salad with "My Grandmother's French Dressing" by JIMBOWERS (both found on this site). I was SURE I had some garlic bread or rolls in my freezer. WRONG! So i searched the site for garlic spread when I happened upon this FABULOUS recipe. Served with "Townhouse (TM) crackers and bagel chips along with the salad. It got rave reviews! So simple to make, and quick! I had everything on hand. This will be a staple for "Card night" etc. Thanks for the recipe!
