About this Cook
I designed my own home, AROUND my new kitchen, where I spend most of my time. I love trying new recipes and I have a family that doesnt mind being guinea pigs (thank goodness!).
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy serving up good ole down-home country cookin' the best. Its what gets the biggest raves. But for myself, I love Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. Im in heaven when Im baking up sweet goodies to share with friends and family.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year my best friend comes to visit me in November and we spend two days making all our favorite cookie and candy recipes. Then we each take half of what the other made so that we have a huge variety of goodies for the holidays. We used to include the kids when they were little. My kitchen was a mess at the end, but I have memories to last a lifetime.
My cooking triumphs
My best cooking triumph was winning a chili cook-off at the office years ago. I made my own recipe, which I call Vermont Chili. It has real maple syrup in it, so it starts out a little on the sweet side when you first taste it, but then the slow burn comes afterwards. Maybe Ill post the recipe someday!
My cooking tragedies
I was a newlywed and knew my hubby loved meatloaf. I'd never made one, so I found a recipe in my cookbook and proceeded to mix it up. To this very day, I don't know what I did wrong, but after the first bite, we literally POURED it out! Ive since found the Rempel Family Meatloaf recipe on this website and Im sticking to it!

Grilled Tilapia with Mango Salsa
Thanks so much for this recipe, WITZKEN! I prepared this recipe EXACTLY as written and WOW, was this delicious! Two hours after dinner my husband and I were still enjoying the "after glow" from this gem. Next time I make it (and there will be a next time), I will prepare it again exactly as written. I might even double the recipe and invite some lucky couple to join us. Again, thanks!

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad
Thank you, Jamie! I prepared this recipe exactly as written, which is my custom for trying a new recipe. It was divine! We ate every morsel of this lovely, light salad. It can stand alone as a luncheon salad served with grilled chicken or beef tenderloin strips. The dressing is absolutely to die for!

Zesty Hoppin John Salad
This recipe is so refreshing! I made it according to the recipe, except I opted out of the cucumber, because I don't really like it. This recipe is a great jumping-off point. Next time I make it I might add two grilled chicken breasts cut into bite sized pieces. It might be good with bacon crumbles and shredded cheddar, the possibilities are endless! Thanks, Gumaraid!
