About this Cook
I designed my own home, AROUND my new kitchen, where I spend most of my time. I love trying new recipes and I have a family that doesnt mind being guinea pigs (thank goodness!).
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy serving up good ole down-home country cookin' the best. Its what gets the biggest raves. But for myself, I love Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. Im in heaven when Im baking up sweet goodies to share with friends and family.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year my best friend comes to visit me in November and we spend two days making all our favorite cookie and candy recipes. Then we each take half of what the other made so that we have a huge variety of goodies for the holidays. We used to include the kids when they were little. My kitchen was a mess at the end, but I have memories to last a lifetime.
My cooking triumphs
My best cooking triumph was winning a chili cook-off at the office years ago. I made my own recipe, which I call Vermont Chili. It has real maple syrup in it, so it starts out a little on the sweet side when you first taste it, but then the slow burn comes afterwards. Maybe Ill post the recipe someday!
My cooking tragedies
I was a newlywed and knew my hubby loved meatloaf. I'd never made one, so I found a recipe in my cookbook and proceeded to mix it up. To this very day, I don't know what I did wrong, but after the first bite, we literally POURED it out! Ive since found the Rempel Family Meatloaf recipe on this website and Im sticking to it!

Crab Dip
I used 3 (6oz) cans of crab meat, 1 cup sour cream, 2 (8oz) pkgs of cream cheese, I sauteed 1 half of a sweet onion with garlic in a tbsp of butter. Added Old Bay, and garlic powder to taste. Add 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese, grated and a dash of salt. May be served hot or cold with bagel chips, or garlic or onion flavored crackers.

Garlic Dill New Potatoes
This is the perfect blend of spices! I use it on boiled potatoes, roasted potatoes, and in twice baked potatoes. Thanks Kel!

Blooming Onion and Dipping Sauce
I was in a tight spot to try to get dinner on the table in less than half an hour. The sauce from this recipe actually saved the day! I didn't have any creamy horseradish sauce - in fact I had no horseradish sauce of any kind! I used hot mustard sauce in its place, and it was the BOMB! I was serving burgers, onion rings and fries. People were dipping both fries and onion rings AND they were saying, "Mmmm" and putting it on their burgers too! Tasty! Thanks, Jackie Smith!
