About this Cook
I'm a live-to-eat kind of person. The only thing that saves me from being big as a house is poring over recipes and creating fabulous meals, savoring every nuance rather than consuming and being consumed by food.
My favorite things to cook
Simple, easy to make, out of this world dishes without a lot of expensive obscure ingredients. Oh ... also low fat, low calorie and healthy. It's quite the challenge but then I love a challenge.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up, if it wasn't fried my mother didn't make it. Ever heard of fried cabbage?
My cooking triumphs
Wild goose with hunter sauce roasted in a wood-burning cook stove served one Thanksgiving about 10 years ago. Took over 5 hours and was worth every one of them.
My cooking tragedies
Never put an aluminum pan on high! Imagine almost setting the kitchen on fire boiling rice!

Faken (Veggie Bacon)
It did not resemble bacon in any way but was good nonetheless. I used fresh regular extra firm tofu cause I couldn't find frozen smoked and sorghum instead of maple syrup which is too sweet. Also thought the name of the recipe quite cute, but I don't get why vegetarians try to "pretend" to be meat-eaters or look for substitutes.

Pasta with Roasted Butternut Squash and Sage
I left out the meat & used steamed summer squash. I used whole milk instead of cream. I served it cold the next day. The flavors had time to blend in the frig. A lovely light lunch fare with nice delicate flavors. Will make again.

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad
I contributed this toward the family Christmas dinner expecting it to go untouched amidst all the starch and gravy and gooeys. Instead it was devoured and my sister-in-law asked for the recipe.
