Poor Man's Hamburger Steaks

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2014
Husband, tween, toddler and mom approved! I don't usually rate recipes that I didn't make exactly according to the recipe, but I think this recipe would be excellent no matter how you make the patties! I just used some Lipton Onion soup mix I had on hand (I've made a jar of it homemade) instead of the written ingredients because I didn't have them. I did bake the patties before adding the soup to remove some grease, though I used ground round and there wasn't much. It could have been mixed in with the soup. Since I only was cooking for 2 adults and 2 kids I cut the recipe way back and only used one can of soup. Two would have been better. To compensate for less gravy, I took the patties out and added a little milk to the remaining soup to thin it out and extend the gravy. Not that often that my entire family ohhhh's and ahhhhh's over dinner. This simple recipe was a hit and will be in our regular rotation now! Thanks RHONDA35!

General Tsao's Chicken II

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2013
This is delicious and is the closest to the restaurant General Tso's chicken I've ever had. I accidently used all of my cornstarch in the beginning of the recipe and had nothing to thicken the sauce. In a pinch I made a roux of 2 TB butter and 2 TB flour, then added the sauce to this. Unlike other reviewers who had thin sauce, mine was thick and gooey. My accident was successful!

Veggie Pizza

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2013
The 'sauce' is odd tasting to me. I didn't use all of the ranch packet and I actually added more sour cream to try and back down the salty taste. Which is odd as I love salt and could practically eat it from the shaker. I also love fresh veggies with ranch. This recipe just fell flat. Good enough to serve at my party, but I won't be making this again. I once had a veggie pizza years ago and it was delicious this one not so much.

The Ultimate Chili

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2013
I always read reviews first, but seeing nearly 5 stars I just went for it. MISTAKE. If you read all the positive reviews most have added additions to them, too. We love chilli and are not in any way chilli snobs. I like to try a different recipe each time and usually even the worst recipe is still alright. This was just... odd. The celery was pointless. I didn't really taste it in there, so it was an added step. No tomato sauce made it very watery, more like a beef soup broth instead of the thicker tomato base of most chilis. No onions was just sad. The stewed tomatoes were WAY too big. The small amount of chili powder was very lacking. Picture a bland chili in beef broth with giant tomatoes. I saved it by adding tomato sauce, onions and tons more chili powder. There was an under lying weird taste to it. I'm thinking it was the red wine vinegar or the red wine. It was edible before my additions, but I'd never ever make this again. My chilli loving husband who will eat any kind of chili in a can with a smile tasted this and said it was gross. Yikes!

Tortellini Chowder

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2013
The flavor was aright, but the tortellini just felt like over kill and a bit of an odd combination. It would have stood well on it's own without it. Too spicy for the kids, but a perfect bite of spice for adults. I think as a chowder it was decent, but I would leave out the tortellini next time. Over all it just seemed like too much work for the end result. Probably won't bother making this again.

Restaurant Style Beef and Broccoli

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2011
This was really good! I follow all the directions as written, except I added some linguine noodles. My 6 year old was not a fan, but myself and husband loved it.

Beef Enchiladas with Spicy Red Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2011
I make simple enchiladas all the time with the sauce in a can. My husband wouldn't have known this recipe was any different unless I told him. It was nice to use the recipe since I didn't have any canned sauce on hand, but I won't go through the trouble next time. OR I will make a large batch and freeze just the sauce so I have it available. Overall the flavor was great, just wasn't worth the effort.

Irish Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2011
This was one of those recipes that appears like you spent all day on it, but was actually really easy. I had shredded left over turkey in my freezer that I used in place of the chicken. Everything else I kept the same except adding some "Chicken Soup Base" spice seasoning. I like things extra spiced, so that's just personal preference. I've made this twice already and it's a keeper!

Chicken Chili Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2011
This was actually a little on the bland side for me. To be fair, I like my food very seasoned. I kept adding chili powder but it just wasn't doing it, so I threw in a packet of taco season and it is delicious.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2011
I used celery salt in place of the chopped celery and added salt because I didn't have any celery on hand. This is a soup I forget about, but I always have the ingredients for. it's a great soup to make with that ham bone you have sitting in your freezer since Christmas! I boiled my ham bone in water and used that stock for the 'water' in the recipe. Great served with some cheese on top! YUM! My husband and picky 6 year old love this!

Seven Layer Salad

Best salad ever! It's really the dressing that makes it wonderful! We always add a layer of hard boiled eggs. This is something we eat as a dinner all by itself!

Tastes just like what is served at our local Mexican joint. YUM! I made no changes and follow the recipe as directed. Turns out perfectly!

Reuben Casserole

Reviewed: May 23, 2011
This really does taste like a Reuben sandwich! I subbed in thousand island dressing for the Russian style. I did find myself missing having a sandwich though. It was odd to eat this "taste" with a fork instead of in your hands.

Seven Layer Tex Mex Dip

Reviewed: May 23, 2011
Very tasty! When adding the taco seasoning to the Mayo/sour cream mixture add about half then more to taste as you go. The entire taco packet (1 oz.) was a bit strong for me. Still great, I will just add less next time!
