Sesame Pasta Salad
The Littlest Helper
About this Cook
I'm a wife, mother to 3, only daughter, and sister to 4. I have no formal cooking training beyond 1 semester of Home Ec. in 7th grade, I chose to work with tools after that. I wasn't about to be stuck cleaning while the boys got to go play. I married and had children young, at first I watched a lot of cooking shows and enjoyed learning new methods and styles. I don't have time for that now, but have been enjoying Masterchef and Take Home Chef. We have some special dietary needs that can be a struggle to work around, and sometimes feeding my family gets really tiresome, so I keep trying to come up with new and exciting things to try and help reduce the monotony of the same tried and true dishes on a small rotation. Our family food budget has been cut recently. I'm enjoying cooking more from scratch. My son was floored when he found that we're saving $40 a month just by baking our own bread. Allrecipes.com is my favorite reference when a craving or inspiration strikes.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake, I love sweet and salty combinations, and I love to make things that my kids enjoy, especially when it's good for them!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up in an extended family that frequently had potlucks, and often there was a playful competitive undertone. Who made the best dish? Who brings the latest trend to the table? Who introduces something amazing? In that spirit I love trying new things and new foods, but I try not to make it a competition. I fully admit that sometimes I make flops, I wouldn't change that because it brings a new drive for me to figure out what went wrong and to do better next time. I'd like to hope that the family traditions have evolved in a way that it's now everybody pitches in and everybody enjoys the fruits of our collective labors.
My cooking tragedies
There is the time that I pulled crumbled sausage from the freezer and threw it into a pasta sauce, only to find out that it had been breakfast sausage... Always taste your dishes!

Norris' Sesame Pasta Salad
Second review, I made it again this time I had sesame seeds, and they were definitely a nice addition. The first time I used about a half teaspoon of pepper flakes, this time I added a whole teaspoon. That's about where I like it. The biggest change we made, which I think is the perfect balance, is using 1/4 cup sesame oil instead of a half cup. This made room to experience more of the flavor profiles, and other agreed.

Sweet Pea and Noodle Salad
I make a variation of this recipe regularly, I add whatever I have around, tuna, pepperoni, diced zucchini, tomatoes, green peppers, carrots, celery, cubed avocado (if you're going to eat immediately), just about anything.

Rolled Buttercream Fondant
This was a sad nasty mess. Very disappointing. Even after coloring it dark green it had a sweaty white film on it. I added a TON of sugar (another half almost!) and then it was crackly and just terrible. Not pretty, and not tasty. My son gave me a pitty "it's good." but I could tell he just didn't want to hurt my feelings. I couldn't roll it this enough because it was flaking apart, so it wasn't even pretty.
