The Best Slow Cooker Cream Corn

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2010
Try cooking some sliced bell pepper in water until softened and adding all of it to your finished dish before serving. You'll be blown away.

Bacon Baked Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2010
I found almost the exact recipe in The Betty Crocker cookbook in the 60's. Only thing it didn't call for ketchup but Lea & Perrins instead. We're been making this all my married life and my kids and everyone who eats it likes it. It's better to saute the onions in the bacon fat. Gives it a better flavor. The apple must have been your idea. Good recipe.

For my personal taste, I prefer freshly chopped garlic and parsley added at the table.

Victoria's Cucumber Salad

Much better with onions sliced thin and only adding vinegar, salt and pepper. But I bet the sugar would be a nice touch.

American Potato Salad

I make my potato salad the same way except I don't use the green pepper. I use garlic instead. Add parsley, maybe some sweet or dill relish and yellow mustard and you gotta party!!

Asiago Toasted Cheese Puffs

I'm going to try the cheese spread since I'm not a mayo lover. Does anyone think it would be good with just butter and the other ingredients? Love to try these but mayo had it's place and for me, it wouldn't be here.

Okra Gumbo

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2009
When using roux and okra, there is no need to also add file powder. File is to be used without okra. They are both thickening agents and only one is needed. Usually okra is used with seafoods and file is used with chiken and sausage. Some people will add some seafood with their meats, but usually don't combine okra and file in the same dish....at least not in the real New Orleans.

Seemed like a good recipe until it said to heat the grill. Not good for apartment goers.

Turkey Gumbo

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
With less oil and flour to make the roux, it's a delicious meal. My family loves this. My mother made it when I was growing up. We like to use hot sausage rolled into balls and Bisquick fried, then drained to get rid of excess oil. Garlic added along with the parsely would make this a perfect reason to have Thanksgiving any time of the year.
