About this Cook
I was born in Mineral Wells, TX, but returned to Tallahassee at 6 weeks old so I consider it my hometown. I am the proud Grammie of two beautiful grandchildren. My granddaughter and I love to cook together (she's 13) and now the grandson, who is 6, wants in on the action. It's always double clean-up when he's involved but you gotta learn somehow. I love the beach, surf fishing and gardening. My down time favorite is a good book.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook soups and try different pasta salads. I've never cared much for "baking" but my granddaughter likes to bake so we're trying some new things together.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up my Mom didn't cook much with me but she taught me how to cook by watching. My daughter didn't much like to cook but now the granddaughter and I cook together every chance we get. I call her my sous chef but I also like to "turn her loose" and let her do her own thing, just keeping a watchful eye.
My cooking triumphs
Finally making an edible pie crust that actually tasted good. Also making Christmas dinner for the entire family each and every year for 14 years.
My cooking tragedies
I once tried a salmon casserole in a crock pot. When I took the lid off the smell made us want to RUN. Ended up throwing it in the garbage. I haven't had many tragedies, thank goodness.

Asian Grilled Chicken
These are delicious. I marinated mine all day long and went exactly by the recipe. I could have used a little more heat but otherwise, very good. I cooked my marinade down to about half and brushed it on the grilling chicken. It came out kinda sticky and delicious. Will definitely make again.

Shoyu Chicken
I only had 4 fairly large chicken thighs (2 lbs) so I cut the marinade in half. I let them marinade all day. Not sure what the onion added but these were absolutely delicious. Granddaughter and I cooked them on the gas grill. They were delicious. They do have a little "kick" so if you don't like spicy, leave out the red pepper. I think next time I'll use pineapple juice in place of the water. I will cook these many more times. UPDATE: I have made this recipe over and over. The biggest challenge is planning ahead for the time to marinade. Last few times I mince the onion instead of chopping and that seems to work better. I also add a little more fresh ginger. This is one of my favorite chicken recipes.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread
This is so, so good. First time I used this recipe and my family all raved about how good it was. I used 2 cups white and 1 cup brown sugar and kept everything else pretty much the same. I made 9 mini loaves, just cooked a shorter amount of time. I will make this again.
