Black Magic Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2011
Oh my goodness this cake is wonderful. Hands down it's the best chocolate cake recipe I've ever made. Like others, I had a little problem with it sticking the first time I made it, so the next time I made it I used parchment paper in the baking pan. Presto! No sticking but still all sorts of fabulousness in the cake. Mmmmm!

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2010
This is my go-to recipe for banana bread. It comes out perfect every single time I make it. It's so moist and delicious without being overly heavy. It works well plain, with nuts, or with chocolate chips. Excellent recipe!

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2009
These are wonderful and so very pretty. I took the advice in earlier comments and I doubled the cream cheese mixture for these. My only caution: Do *not* use dark muffin cups for these or the bottoms of your muffins will be overcooked. My second batch, made in shiny muffin tins, were absotively perfect.

Grilled Chicken and Portobello Lasagna Rollups

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2009
Oh my goodness this was YUMMY! I didn't expect my husband to love it, because he's not a big spinach fan, but he had THIRDS when I made this. The only change I made was to add extra sauce, based on other reviews. I think this recipe could actually be made without chicken and still be good if you're trying to make a vegetarian dish. Next time I might add some caramelized onions to the spinach mixture or maybe sautee some garlic with it. This would be just to experiment and not because the recipe wasn't wonderful exactly as written. THANKS!

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2009
This was sooooo yummy and super easy. It's just the thing for a busy day when you need to have dinner just about ready when you get home. Per some other reviews, I used nonfat cream cheese and 98% fat free chicken soup, and this still tasted wonderfully creamy and decadent. I used Zesty Italian salad dressing mix, which gave it some nice flavor. I'll definitely make this again.

Honey Baked Chicken II

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2009
Instant family favorite. I was worried because my husband does not like ethnic food at all and I was hoping the curry flavor wouldn't overpower the dish. It doesn't taste like a curry dish at all, though. It has just exactly the right balance of sweet and spicy. Even my 8-year old -- the world's most finicky eater -- loved it. Per others' suggestions, I cut the butter in half.

Apricot-Glazed Pork Chops

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2009
Wow! I echo the person whose daughter didn't like pork chops but really liked these! My daughter ate these right up, and until now she has disliked pork chops. I was worried, when I started this recipe, that I would wind up with a sickly sweet gummy glaze on the pork chops, but it's not like that at all! The ginger cuts the sweetness to exactly the right level: a hint of sweetness, but not a "sweet" dish at all. YUM! My husband asked for these again!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2007
I agree with the other posters that this recipe is too thick as written. But once you add milk, IT IS FABULOUS! They cooked up so light and fluffy and yummy! Mmmmm! I added another 1/2 C milk. If you're looking for just a plain, standard pancake (without fancy flours, grated veggies, or exotic ingredients, THIS is the recipe you should use.

Cheesy Potato Casserole

Puuuuuure comfort food! This was amazingly good. Don't skimp on the onion if you make this, because it adds a lot to it. I used half mayo, half sour cream, and this dish got raves at a family gathering. I've experimented several times with this, sometimes using chopped ham instead of bacon or baking cocktail weiners into it. Yummy any way you make it.

Easy Baked Oatmeal

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2004
I really didn't care for it. I looked forward to making it, b/c it sounded good, but it was disappointing. The texture was too coarse and it tasted too eggy. Other than the abundance of eggy taste, there wasn't much other flavor. Maybe it would be better if you poured cream and/or maple syrup over it? I'll give it another try, but I'm going to have to tinker with the recipe a while.

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2004
Oh my gosh, this is awesome! I made this recipe in an "emergency" when I needed an entree for a casual gathering. The flavor on this was WONDERFUL and everybody there had at least second helpings. It disappeared! (I took the advice of others here and used beef broth instead of water and doubled the salad dressing mix.)

Chocolate Banana Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2004
There just aren't words for how awesome this bread is! It disappears every time I make it! Super moist and delicious! I haven't had any problem making it in a full-size loaf. About halfway through the cooking, I rest a piece of foil gently over the top of it, and that keeps the top from getting too browned while the inside cooks.

Quiche Lorraine I

Even though I could feel my left ventricle squeezing shut with every bite, this stuff was wonderful! The flavors are so good together, and I didn't have any problem with it being too runny. (I even added extra cheese, and it was still set in the center.)

Oh my gosh, this stuff is awesome! I'll never make any other kind of garlic bread. Per the suggestion of other users, I cut the mayo way down to about 1/4 to 1/2 C, and it came out perfectly. Rave reviews from the family. :-)

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2004
Awesome. This recipe looked a little iffy to me, but I made it tonight and it was wonderful! The only thing I changed is that I added more red pepper than the recipe called for, because I like more zip to a recipe. Other than that, it was wonderful. I'll definitely make it again.

Burrito Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2004
This recipe was pretty good. Here's how I think it could be improved: (1) More cheese! (2) Higher meat to refried beans ratio. It seemed a little mushy. (3) Use lasagna noodles instead of tortillas, unless you like really mushy casserole. (4) Did I mention more cheese? (5) Add some taco seasoning to the meat mixture for a little more flavor. Still, the recipe *was* pretty good just as it is.
