I've been looking for an actual "Chowder" recipe NOT "Soup" and I have finally found it. Some of the other recipes have a lighter soupy consistency, so if that's what you're looking for, then this is not the recipe for you. My son, who does not like clam chowder, surprisingly had seconds last night. I have found the perfect recipe for my family and friends. I did make some modifications, to our taste. I added a bottle of clam juice, an extra can of clams and 2 cans of canned shrimp. Note: If you use the full quart of half-and-half, it will come out VERY creamy. I had to add some milk and some cornstarch to even out the flavor. I left out the red-wine vinegar to be added invidiually by family members as not everyone liked the vinger added. I also left out the carrots, seeing as they don't really fit into the clam chowder. Otherwise, this was an excellent thick and creamy chowder, just like our family likes it.
