Lentil Soup III

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2007
Taking hints from other reviews, I snazzed up the seasonings, and got a hit! When my teenagers will eat a hearty healthy soup like this one, and ask for seconds, we have success. I sauteed the onion, 4 cloves of garlic, and two bay leaves in olive oil, then added the rest of the ingredients, including two chicken bullion cubes, since I keep my homemade stock on the plain side. I salted and peppered throughout the cooking process, as needed, and even added a dash or two of garlic powder at the end. I think one must look at this as a soup that one must season to taste. We love it! I served it with Italian bread bowls, from this site; YUM!

Pumpkin Buns

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2007
I used fresh pumpkin which I had pureed, and left everything else the same. These were delicious! They turned out warm and chewy, with an almost caramel taste to them. Absolutely perfect with hot tea or coffee on a wintry afternoon. I will be making these again.

MMMmmm Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2003
Okay, the frosting made the very top of the cake taste good, but the rest of the cake was dry, crumbly, and could not possibly be served to a guest. I keep re-reading the recipe, to see if I did something wrong, considering the previous review, but I followed it to a tee, and generally have excellent success with cakes.

Enchilada Casserole III

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2009
Normally, if I change something, I will not post a review, but this time, it was only because I had already put chicken breasts into the crockpot, figuring I would find SOMETHING to do with them, after work!! I did--this recipe! So, all I did was switch the (shredded) chicken for the ground beef; next time, I will try it with the beef. Anyway, TO DIE FOR! My pickeiest eater went back for THIRDS!

Gaye's Microwave Fudge

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2010
I made this EXACTLY according to the original posted recipe, no changes, no preheating any ingredients, and it is PERFECT. Set up fine, tastes like fudge, not like sugar, etc. I love it. THANK YOU, whatcity!!!

Chicken and Red Bean Enchiladas

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2010
This was a big hit at our house! I generally only review a recipe if I did not change a thing and still loved it, but in this case, I went ahead and cooked the chicken breasts myself--not much of a change! I also doubled it, and froze one 13x9 pan. I am so glad I did! This is a terrific recipe, exactly as it stands.

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2010
I have been baking bread for several decades now, so when I say that this is the only one I make anymore, it's a big deal at my house! We love it, just the way it is written, no changes. If I switch to another recipe, just for a change, there are loud complaints! A truly terrific recipe.

Cappuccino Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2006
These were terrific! I made them to ship to overseas military, for a Sunday Schoo lclass Christmas project, since the original post said they freeze well; they were so good, I had to make another (huge!) batch for our family!

Absolutely the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2011
Ususally, I will not review, if I made changes, but this time, I cannot resist, because these turned out to be the best cookies I have ever made. I took another reviewer's tips, and melted a cup of butter, instead of using shortening, plus I changed the sugar to one cup brown, one half cup white. So, I wound up with a way-too-runny batter! I ended up using a total of 3 and 1/2 cups flour, and that made it the right consistency. To. Die. For. Got forty cookies out of it, and I will be using this recipe, with my own changes, from now on!

Pancit

Reviewed: May 3, 2009
I loved this! Much more authentic, from what I recall, than the other pancit recipes posted here. Next time, I am going to try it with regular Asian wheat noodles, as opposed to the rice ones mentioned in the recipe. My long-ago (30 years!) Filipina employer used the wheat, and we like it better that way.

Did EXACTLY what the recipe said, and got EXACTLY what I love in a waffle, plus the benefits of oat flour and lower fat. Light, airy, crisp outside, soft inside--perfect!

Greek Lemon Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2009
First off, Paige, I am proud of you for trying this recipe at your age! You rock. It is always a pretty good idea to stick exactly to the plan, and if you ever do this again, if you will try that, I'll bet it turns out as magnificently as mine did! I LOVE THIS RECIPE!!!! Also, I am still incredulous that an ADULT baker left OUT the lemon zest, then complained this did not taste lemony enough! What a hoot! This cake is outstanding! Thanks so much for posting it!

Very Best Blueberry Cobbler!

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2009
Delicious cobbler, but the baking time is way off. Next time, I will either double--yes, DOUBLE!--the time, with foil over the pan for the last half to prevent too much browning, or I will double the berries and do this in a 9 x 13.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2007
I am trying to figure out what went wrong, for the people who gave this recipe a bad rating; these are the most delicious brownies I think I have ever made in my life, and I have made a lot of brownies. They are gooey without tasting underdone, they are sinfully rich as far as chocolate flavor; I frosted them, as per another user's suggestion, ten minutes out of the oven--I did use a few drops of milk, to make the frosting spreadable--and the frosting is to die for. I do understand the one -star rater who said she did not like the honey taste in the frosting--though it is very mild--but that could be easily remedied by leaving it out entirely. I have to wonder what the one-star raters LIKE in brownies. This recipe is perfect. It is a keeper, and will be THE recipe in our house from now on.

Buffalo Shrimp

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2004
She isn't kidding when she says they like it HOT! I *loved* the shrimp just after frying in the double-coating; the sauce was a bit hard for me to take, but I can see where a real leather-tongue, like one of my sons, would love it! Maybe I am just getting old! Delicious coating.
