Easy to make, but not a lot of flavor.

Authentic and Easy Shrimp Curry

Reviewed: May 13, 2012
Flavorful and filling! For the ginger garlic, I used 1T chopped garlic stirred with ground ginger. Used a full teaspoon of turmeric and cut the chile powder to 1/2 t. I couldn't find curry leaves, but did use 1 t. of curry powder and the effect was good. This was perfect served over a bowl of jasmine rice.

Darra's Famous Tuna Waldorf Salad Sandwich Filling

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
Maybe the best tuna salad I have ever tried. I went with more tuna (three 2.6 oz pouches in sunflower oil) a little more celery/onion and a red delicious apple chopped. The salad tasted so good that instead of a second sandwich I filled a bowl with the salad and ate it separately. It went great with the sliced Swiss cheese on the side and then toasted bread with honey.

Halibut Divine

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2011
The overall flavor was good; however, I feel that you can find a tastier way to prepare halibut. In my opinion the dry mustard did not overpower the fish. On the other hand, this recipe calls for too much sour cream and that makes for a rich and slightly heavy sauce that detracts from the delicateness of halibut. I tried making my own french fried onions - soaked in milk, dredged in flour and then pan fried with a little canola oil... I think this helped. One note on the cooking time - mine bake for 35 minutes in a covered enamel french oven and needed every bit of that time to fully cook. This recipe was worth trying once, but to me the price of fresh halibut is too expensive and the results of this recipe too underwhelming to want to give it another go.

Blueberry, Banana, and Peanut Butter Smoothie

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2011
I did not have any flax seed on hand, went with frozen blackberries instead of blueberries and vanilla rather than plain yogurt. Delicious, sweet and a good morning or afternoon hunger killer.

Spicy Lentil Dip

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2011
Very good, like a Mediterranean guacamole! I had 2 cups of steamed lentils already on hand, so my preparation varied from the recipe. Like another reviewer, I sautéed a chopped onion for 5 minutes in veg. oil, added the spices and cooked for another 2 minutes, then added 4 cloves of minced garlic for the final minute. Cut back a bit on the cayenne and added 1/2 tsp of salt, 1.5 tsp ground coriander and a dash of ground ginger in the spice mixture. Combined everything in a blender and added chicken broth... you may want 1 to 1.5 cups depending on the consistency you're after. Let it chill and the spices soak in.

Pomegranate Stew with Chicken (Khoresh Fesenjan)

Very delicious and the leftovers were equally as impressive. I used brown sugar and really liked the result. Thanks for a terrific recipe.

Fish Chowder

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2008
Went heavy on the veggies (celery and mushrooms), used tilapia as the fish, and subbed half & half for one of the cans of evaporated milk. Also, you'll want A LOT more Old Bay. The result: fantastic! A few drops of Tabasco or another hot sauce in the bowl along with some sourdough bread on the side makes this incredible... one of my new favorite recipes.

Hot Artichoke and Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2006
this dip blows the lid off anything else. I doubled the recipe, added in a little sour cream and monterrey jack instead of doubling the cream cheese... and ended up with stuff that is ultra addictive. cooking time and temp is perfect. A buzz is already generating in anticipation for the Super Bowl batch I'm going to make. A new favorite has been born.

Orange Coconut Salmon

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2005
Not for me. These are all ingredients I like, but it didn't taste good together. Can't figure out what went wrong... but now I've got tons of leftovers of expensive salmon that no one is touching.

Beer Cooked Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2005
Really liked the mushrooms with this, but the beer didn't add a lot to the flavor. Maybe it's just me because my taste bud senses have become so dulled to beer. Next time I'll try cooking it in the hard stuff :-)

Cajun Style Meatloaf

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2005
Really tasty, my new favorite meatloaf. I went with a full pound of andouille, worked out great. The spice sneaks up on you, but it's worth it for sure. Thanks for a well put-together recipe.

Grilled Salmon with Habanero-Lime Butter

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2005
Wonderful recipe, thanks for a great idea!! I sprinkled a little lime zest on the salmon while on the grill... everybody loved the flavor. That butter is deceptively spicy!! Takes a couple of minutes before it starts to bite. This one is a sure repeat.

Toasted Garlic Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2005
Good idea, but not very impressive overall. If I make this again, I will toast in the oven... NOT the broiler. I chopped up the few slices we didn't eat and used as croutons... liked it much better that way.

Old Bay® Maryland Crab Soup

Not bad for a soup, but doesn't live up to the hype. Tripled the Old Bay seasoning and still wish it had more flavor.

The Most Awesome Smoothie You'll Ever Make

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2005
Thanks for a terrific smoothie idea! After playing with a few variations, I've found something that I use for breakfast at least 3-4 times a week. Instead of the apple, I use a whole pitted plum. Instead of OJ, I use 1/2 cup of apple juice. Instead of soy milk and tofu, I use 7oz of Coconut milk!! I prefer using a full 6oz of flavored yogurt. For the grand finale, I mix in 2 tablespoons of dried bee pollen in lieu of the barley grass. Blend it all up and I am off to a great start in the morning.

Chorizo with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Cider

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2005
Maybe I used the wrong chorizo, but it was more like ground beef than sausage that could be cut diagonally. I stuck to the recipe and ended up with something much more like chili, but it was really good!! We served this by putting spoonfuls on sliced pieces of toasted sourdough loaf. Went absolutely perfect with zamorano cheese slices and Spanish wine. Best Sunday afternoon snack I've had in a long time.

Basil Cream Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2005
A very easy and tasty dinner. This is not the quickest meal you could make, it takes about 30-45 minutes prepare. It is flavorful, but not very spicy. Simply grilling chicken rather than using the milk and bread crumbs would be equally delicious.
