About this Cook
I am a busy mom, but family meals are one of the most important times in my day. I love preparing a hot meal for the family and watching them enjoy it. When everyone is quiet at the dinner table I know it is because everyone's mouth is full. I love that!
My favorite things to cook
Probably breakfast. Many mornings my husband and kids grab a bowl of cereal, but I love days when we sit casually in the morning together over pancakes, eggs and bacon. I love to make waffles, omelets and crepes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We don't really have a meal that is a tradition in our house, but we enjoy canning annually. It is a lot of work, but we have fun. I love to preserve fruit and pickled beets. We also make pickled peppers, salsa, cucumber pickles and apple butter.
My cooking triumphs
I think I am particularly good at making pie crust. Of coarse I use the recipe from "The Joy of Cooking" but I have perfected the technique. ;)
My cooking tragedies
Eh! well just about a week ago I burned 20 quarts of diced tomatoes in a stock pot! What a bummer. I have had a number of grease fires on our BBQ because I don't like to clean it, but I think the biggest tragedy was a strawberry/rhubarb pie I made when a priest was coming for dinner. I still don't know what happened, but the bottom crust didn't cook and the filling was runny. I had no idea until I cut into the awful thing! How embarrassing!
