Apple Hermits

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2003
These cookies are delicious-quite a compliment coming from a devout chocolate lover! Because I am not wild about cloves, I did cut the amount called for in the recipe by half-and I used dark brown sugar. My family loved them!A wonderful cookie for the fall season! Can't wait to make them again!

Black Bottom Cupcakes I

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2003
I've been making these cupcakes for over 20 years-I didn't know that the recipe was "out there"! These were always great stand-by's when I needed something to bake, but had no eggs...only difference is I whipped the cream cheese until fluffy and used regular vinegar,

Chicken Marsala

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2003
Very good recipe-one word of caution...if you should use cooking marsala instead of straight marsala, make sure you cut the salt out of the ingredients, as cooking marsala contains salt. I didn't have Sherry so I used a little chicken broth, and it was very good!

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2003
This pot roast WAS awesome...and so easy! I used cream of chicken soup because that was all I had on hand. My husband and the kids loved it-I didn't dare tell them how easy it was! I will definitly make this often!

Diane's Colcannon

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2003
We really enjoyed this dish. So nice(and rare) to find a traditional Irish recipe! My husband liked it alone as a meal, but I am looking forward to having it along with my Corned Beef Wellington for St. Pat's Day. Nice change from the usual boiled cabbage & potatoes.

Easiest Lemony Pound Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2003
Absolutely terrific! I followed the recipe as written, but used the whole box of lemon pudding-it was great! One word of caution-do not use a cake mix that already has pudding in it-the cake was good while warm, but then became very "heavy". Recipe as written is great!

Maple Meltaways

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2003
Sorry, but I was not as impressed as the previous bakers...nice maple flavor, but the cookies themselves turn into a floury paste in your mouth-almost everyone at Thanksgiving Dinner agreed with me. Sorry, but I won't make these again :^(

Oatmeal Cherry Walnut Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2003
Very good cookies-stay nice and soft and chewy-I used candied cherries because I could not find dried, and that made them a little too sweet. I will continue the search for dried cherries-and definitly add them to my Christmas cookie list!

PB & J Pinwheels

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2003
Not enough "reward" for the amount of work involved. I'd rather make peanut butter cookies and put a "jam thumbprint" in the middle of each one! Same great P&J taste...a lot less work!

Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2004
Excellant recipe, but a little too mushy for me...I will use less of the egg mixture next time. Also, for special occasions, stir together 1 cup br sugar, 2 tbsp. lite corn syrup 1/2 cup butter-simmer until melted, pour in bottom of pan-sprinkle with 1 cup chopped pecans, then place bread on top and continue recipe (using less egg mixture)-after baking let rest for 10 mins.Make sure to serve with flat spatula & invert on to plate!Enjoy!

Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2004
Great recipe! My husband does not like pieces of tomatoes in his food so I put the stewed tomatoes in the blender, then added them to the pot. I also added small macaroni the last 10 minutes of cooking to make a really hardy soup! Great recipe!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2005
I am really surprised by the 5-star ratings. Sorry, but I found these "cookies" to be real "belly-bombers".I tried the suggestions of previous bakers by baking half the batch at 325; half at 350. I found the cookie batter itself to be bland, except for a strong vanilla extract taste. The "day after" they were no better. I will stick to the recipe for "Mrs Field's Choc Chip" Cookies...or the original Tollhouse cookies.

To Die For Fettuccine Alfredo

Not bad, just a little bland. I prefer the recipe right on the box-but double the sauce ingredients (Yep-heart attack on-a-plate!)

Blueberry Coffee Cake I

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2005
Good recipe. I made the following adjustments. Used 3/4 cup buttermilk instead of 1/2 cup milk, mixed 1 cup blueberries into batter, but next time will use 1-1/2 or two cups!!!, put 3/4 of the "topping" into the middle, then added the remaining batter. Will make again!!

Mom's Stovetop Pork Ribs

Sorry..we did not like this recipe at all.....way too salty!!! Anyone thinking of trying this recipe should use low-sodium soy sauce.I liked the flavor of the rosemary-but I have definitly used better rib recipes...Will not try this again--sorry!

Texas Ranch Potato Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2005
Very good...I used half mayo and half sour cream. I also used the real bacon bits instead of frying bacon. My only negative comment is that I found it to be quite salty-but the flavors were delicious-and my husband loved it! :^)

Creamy Italian White Bean Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2005
Sorry, but I did not care for this soup at all. When I read the recipe I thought it sounded bland, but because of the reviews I thought I would try it anyway. I added two boullion cubes and extra garlic, but I just don't think it was worth the effort. To those of you who did like it, I suggest adding some ditalini or other small macaroni to make it heartier.

Very Easy Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2006
I can't understand the rave reviews this one received. I felt like I ruined a good bowl of fresh fruit by mixing in alot of sweet gooey syrup!! Not one compliment (or even any kinda of comment) at a bbq full of people!!!Sorry, but I'd rather mixed together lots of fresh fruit and let it make it's own juice!

Tomato Barley Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2008
I thought the recipe as written was bland, but a good base to add to. I sauted garlic and sausage meat and added that to the soup along with some grated cheese. I may try it again and use beef pieces to make a beef barley soup.Four stars for a good "base" soup!
