About this Cook
I have found a wonderful reason to cook--he's 5' 11" and makes a mean stew so I have to try to keep up in the kitchen. Other than that, I really started experimenting while away on a yoga retreat with little access to restaurants and a goal of eating healthy.
My favorite things to cook
I love take simple wholesome dishes and add a twist with an unusual spice, tangy citrus, or something else that is unexpectedly wonderful.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My uncle used to deliver ridiculously large amounts of fresh shrimp to my grandmother's house (typically at 3 or 4 AM when he came home from a shrimping trip). We would all wake up and help prepare the shrimp for storage before giving some to everyone in the family. Breakfast on those mornings was simple: shrimp dipped in melted garlic butter with some toast.
My cooking triumphs
I reinvented my dad's old guacamole recipe. I love making it fresh and it reminds me of him!
My cooking tragedies
Ingredients: 1/4 stick butter 1 large frying pan 1 electric burner 1 Hotel room 2 televisions (both with cable TV) 1 firetruck 1 fireman 1 frazzled hotel employee Turn burner on high then channel surf for a bit and viola!

Blackened Chicken
Just OK. Could have used double the amount of spice this recipe created for two med/lg breasts. I really liked the Blackened Salmon spice recipe and would use that instead (even on chicken) next time.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread I
I can finally stop searching for the perfect chocolate chip banana bread recipe! This is as close to the Starbucks version that I've been able to make. I substituted milk + vinegar for buttermilk and yogurt for sourcream. I also followed the other user's suggestion of mixing the chocolate chips in with the flour mixture to ensure that the chips didn't fall to the bottom and it worked great!
