About this Cook
I am a married 49 year old mother of two and grandma to one. I work full-time as a registered nurse. I have loved to cook ever since I got my first "Easy Bake Oven" when I was 8 or 9. I like everything about cooking- picking recipes, shopping for the ingredients, preparing the recipe, eating the results(my favorite part!)- the only part I hate is the clean up! I am also now finding it a challenge to have the desire to cook for just my husband and myself now that we have an "empty nest".
My favorite things to cook
Pizza and cinnamon rolls are my specialty. I also love to make all kinds of Christmas cookies and candies. My bread machine is my friend! I also like to make baked cabbage rolls( like a "Runza" except I can't call them that because that is a trademarked name!) and kolaches ( a Czech specialty, my husband's mom taught me how to make them since I'm not really a Czech, just married to one.)
My favorite family cooking traditions
We like to get together on Sunday evening for pizza. I roll out the crust, then whoever is around helps put on the toppings. My dad is my best assistant!
My cooking triumphs
I think my biggest cooking triumph is that I have taught my daughter how to cook. She is married now, and a fine cook if I do say so myself!
My cooking tragedies
There have been many! Ask my husband about "Fish Florentine"- that was a newlywed disaster. One of the worst things that has happened was when I was making frosting for a carrot cake with a stand mixer, and my the 12 year old daughter was watching. She leaned over to look in the bowl, and her very long hair got in the beaters- and you can imagine what happened next! Luckily she did not lose any hair or scalp over the incident!

Cherry-Berry Pie
Try using frozen raspberries instead of the strawberries; this take the pie to a whole new level of "yum"! Highly recommend this recipe for something different! And do be sure to use the sour cherries, not canned cherry pie filling- would be way to sweet.

Pina Colada Sorbet
This recipe is YUMMY! Very easy to make, as other reviewers have suggested I don't boil the water and sugar, just throw them in with the other ingredients. I have also used coconut cream instead of coconut milk (extra YUMMY), just cut the sugar in half. Highly recommend, thanks for the great recipe!

French Pastry Pie Crust
Highly recommend this recipe-especially for beginning pie bakers since it is so easy to handle. My daughter used it for a rhubarb pie for Father's day-rave reviews all around!
