I am a Christian first and foremost, saved only by God's Son, Jesus Christ's sacrifice for my sins on the cross. My wonderful husband, and my son and daughter fall next in line of what's most important. We're a homeschooling family, as of twelve years ago, and I've been the leader of a small homeschool group all the while. These moms and students are our dearest friends! I'd take nothing for the privilege of being my husband's wife and spending so much time with our children. How proud we'll be when our daughter graduates and attends Bible college to study education, history and music, in the fall. The college is very close, so we are grateful! Our loving son, a sophomore, makes us so proud too, with his abilities in music, computers, planes/C.A.P., fixing small engines, love for people, etc. Their father, my husband is a loving and devoted Christian man, who puts his family only second to God. I'm a very blessed woman!
My favorite things to cook
Mostly I just love to cook delicious and nourishing meals for my family. My mother set the finest of examples, as she always provided amazing Southern meals, usually consisting of meat or beans, potatoes, homemade cornbread or biscuits, and always, Dad's fresh garden vegetables. In winter though, we could still count on those delicious green beans, tomatoes, squash, ocra, etc., because Mom was an avid canner and freezer. Sooooo, I tend to take after her in my cooking style. Since my husband grew up on the mission field in Brazil, I've become fond of Brazillian cooking; lots of rice and beans dishes for example, to my meals, with garlic and onions galore! Although desserts aren't my favorite part of cooking, our daughter, now seventeen, loves to bake, so now I like it more! :) I must admit, cooking is much better for me, when someone else does the clean-up! ;) I am so thankful to our Lord to have food in plenty , and a hubby who is faithful in providing all that's needed to cook!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Love to cook Southern-style, like my mother and grandmothers. It's great to share their and my aunts' recipes. I love to cook with my daughter in particular, who's become quite able in the kitchen. My son likes cooking, especially when we pretend to be on TV cooking shows; sometimes even videoing "episodes"! And it's precious to be cook with your hubby/best friend, huh? :) His mom always had all her boys washing dishes, so he's fond of clean-up...I love that! I treasure baking Christmas cookies with my daughter every year, and it's a blessing to share the abundance; or to share a meal when a loved one is sick, or when company is over. Our kids often have their friends here, and it's fun to try to fix something that pleases most everyone, although that can be a challenge...glad ours aren't picky-eaters! :) If a "made-up" recipe "turns out", it gets written in my daughter's crafty recipe book we made her years ago. It's just a blessing to present my family with a good, hot meal.
My cooking triumphs
I love the feeling of cooking for extended family and serving the huge crowd a homemade hot meal. And they love it, too!
My cooking tragedies
Once I accidentally burned all the tops on my Brazillian friend's special recipe fruit bread. I felt so bad, but she readily forgave me. :)
