I've made exactly one Thanksgiving dinner in my life.  My parents are long gone and my siblings all have Thanksgiving with their children and grandchildren.  My kids are away from home and usually are working on Thanksgiving Day.  DH and I make our annual trip about 1 hour away to his uncle… MORE

About this Cook
I'm so glad to have the time to cook and bake again although I've got fewer to cook for now! Luckily DH's work cohorts love my food!
My favorite things to cook
I have rediscovered my love for cooking and baking now that I have time to do it again. I especially love making breads and rolls but have also tried to expand my horizons with savory items. I am a notorious carb-aholic.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We always had the tradition of pork and sauerkraut on New Years Day for luck. I always make Monkey Bread on Christmas morning (the kind with butterscotch pudding and frozen rolls). I try to make a nice somewhat fancy dinner for whatever family is available on Christmas Eve before church services.
My cooking triumphs
My one and only attempt at Thanksgiving dinner for the entire family went well.
My cooking tragedies
I really have no "tragedies" but I cannot get the hang of homemade biscuits.

Melt-In-The-Mouth Cashew Meringues
My husband declared these AWESOME! I personally thought they were a bit sweet even after using salted cashews. They are very good however. I've never made meringues before but had 5 egg whites to do something with and this recipe fit the bill especially since I had cashews! I think I may be making these again! Thanks!

Spicy Cheese Crackers
Crackers? Not by any stretch of the imagination. Cookie? Maybe but a savory one. Crumbly mess? Yep. These are good, they do need some sort of heat (I used red pepper flakes). But they do not stay together AT ALL. And the Rice Krispies are hard little nuggets in the otherwise soft crumbs. I wish I hadn't wasted butter and cheese on this recipe.

Rich White Chocolate Cranberry Cookies
Didn't care for these at all. The cookies flattened out paper thin in the oven with lumps where the cranberries and chips were. I think the suggestion of adding oatmeal instead of coconut might have helped this situation. The dough definitely needs more body, and as for the taste, they are way too sweet for us.
