I've made exactly one Thanksgiving dinner in my life.  My parents are long gone and my siblings all have Thanksgiving with their children and grandchildren.  My kids are away from home and usually are working on Thanksgiving Day.  DH and I make our annual trip about 1 hour away to his uncle… MORE

About this Cook
I'm so glad to have the time to cook and bake again although I've got fewer to cook for now! Luckily DH's work cohorts love my food!
My favorite things to cook
I have rediscovered my love for cooking and baking now that I have time to do it again. I especially love making breads and rolls but have also tried to expand my horizons with savory items. I am a notorious carb-aholic.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We always had the tradition of pork and sauerkraut on New Years Day for luck. I always make Monkey Bread on Christmas morning (the kind with butterscotch pudding and frozen rolls). I try to make a nice somewhat fancy dinner for whatever family is available on Christmas Eve before church services.
My cooking triumphs
My one and only attempt at Thanksgiving dinner for the entire family went well.
My cooking tragedies
I really have no "tragedies" but I cannot get the hang of homemade biscuits.

Hot Buttered Rum Muffins
The batter was very thick. The muffins were more like cupcakes than muffins. They were dry even with the rum and sugar on top. Flavor was very mild, nearly bland.

Baked Boursin(R) and Apple Pancakes
I'm not sure why this is called a pancake or why the title says "Pancakes" since you are making one. I would say it is more of a baked omelet or frittata. Either way I didn't like it. I didn't care for the combination of apple and egg and couldn't taste the Boursin cheese at all. I guess I don't have gourmet tastes. I think the directions need to be more specific for the type and size of pie pan to be used since they come in all shapes and sizes and this will influence the outcome.

Garlic, Blue Cheese, and Bacon Biscuits
Yum! How can you go wrong with bacon, blue cheese and garlic? I ended up with 5 slices of bacon after breakfast this morning so I used them and I don't think I had as much blue cheese as called for in the recipe. I also did not return them to the oven to broil after the garlic butter was added. These are very good and will be made again. I think they would be good with chopped green onion mixed in too.
