I've made exactly one Thanksgiving dinner in my life.  My parents are long gone and my siblings all have Thanksgiving with their children and grandchildren.  My kids are away from home and usually are working on Thanksgiving Day.  DH and I make our annual trip about 1 hour away to his uncle… MORE

About this Cook
I'm so glad to have the time to cook and bake again although I've got fewer to cook for now! Luckily DH's work cohorts love my food!
My favorite things to cook
I have rediscovered my love for cooking and baking now that I have time to do it again. I especially love making breads and rolls but have also tried to expand my horizons with savory items. I am a notorious carb-aholic.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We always had the tradition of pork and sauerkraut on New Years Day for luck. I always make Monkey Bread on Christmas morning (the kind with butterscotch pudding and frozen rolls). I try to make a nice somewhat fancy dinner for whatever family is available on Christmas Eve before church services.
My cooking triumphs
My one and only attempt at Thanksgiving dinner for the entire family went well.
My cooking tragedies
I really have no "tragedies" but I cannot get the hang of homemade biscuits.

Watermelon and Tomato Salad
I absolutely loved this. I wanted to make a lighter, nutritious salad to go with a heavily unhealthy meal and this fit the bill. I used large tomatoes cut into cubes and added about 4 green onions. Delicious! I think it would help to let the tomatoes and watermelon drain a bit because the mixture I made tonight was very juicy. And you really need to use a flavorful watermelon. Thanks!

Watermelon Feta Salad
I really had my reservations about this recipe but had a watermelon that needed to be addressed as well as a plethora of cherry tomatoes in my garden. I happen to have feta cheese in the house too. My only change was to use baby romaine mix and sweet white onion. I will make this salad again. Thanks!

Lemon Zucchini Bread
I made two different zucchini breads this being the second I tried. My husband ate some of the first and declared it delicious and then had some of this one. This one was fantastic! I've made it several times already this week and it disappears quickly. I've never been a lemon fan but I really like this too. Thanks!
