Russian Tea Cakes I

Buttery Soft Pretzels

While I wouldn't call these better than those from the mall, they are really good and a lot of fun to make. My husband and I took some time on this nice fall day to make them while enjoying one another's company. I replaced the vegetable oil with olive oil (since that's what I had on hand) and only used 4 cups of flour - even with four cups I found that I had to add a tablespoon of water. While the recipe ingredients do not call for butter, if you look to the right of the photo in the recipe, Christa mentions dipping them in butter (I brushed the tops of mine) to get the buttery flavor.
