Old Bay® All American Barbecue Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2005
I needed a good sauce for some ribs we're cooking tonight. I made a single batch and liked it enough to triple it for dinner tonight. I did add 1 tsp lemon juice to add a little tang to a pretty sweet sauce. I also recommend heating the sauce prior to eating to dissolve the sugar. A yummy, sweet sauce with just a little heat. Thanks!

Big M's Spicy Lime Grilled Prawns

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2005
These were a huge hit at our last cookout - and I'm about to cook them again. Great flavor with the heat from the chiles and the sweet heat of the ginger. Excellent!

My Sister's Favorite Potato Salad...Ever

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2005
too much dressing for the amount of potatoes. i also added more traditional potato salad stuff like eggs, onion, celery, pickle relish. Otherwise it was very good, very dilly.

Feta and Olive Meatballs

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2005
everyone that eats these loves them. I have used lamb, beef, turkey, and combinations of the above as I have them on hand. All were good. I also used the same recipe to make hamburgers that were to die for, a little lemon-garlic-mayo sauce on top with some sliced onion and lettuce and it's really good. I also second the use of kalamata olives instead of green. Great recipe all around.

Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2005
Um. Don't know where to begin. This soup wasn't good. It tasted like canned chicken noodle soup, and that's not a compliment. I prefer stock or broth, and even canned/boxed is better than boullion cubes!! I also cannot believe the butter (why on earth butter I don't know). Anyway, I was looking for a quick recipe for hubby to make and this was NOT it. not good!!

Spaghetti Carbonara II

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2006
Really fast and yummy, and easy to make with items I have on hand. My son absolutely devoured it, saying he really like the "pasta with bacon and cheese". The wine definitely makes the flavor of the dish pop, so it's not optional for me!! I will say that I cut the recipe in half and two eggs were just a little too rich for me. I will probably make it again with half the eggs and a generous splash of cream (or evap milk since I always have some in the pantry). Otherwise I would have given it a healthy 5 stars!!

Cara's Creamy Stuffed Shells

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2006
OK it's not even done cooking and I'm already giving it five stars - of course I added some things to it to make it extra yummy but this would have been good as written. I did omit the eggs because I didn't think they were needed and added a lot of extra calories. I added some hot italian sausage to ground beef to make 1.5lbs, more than enough for a 12 oz box of pasta. I also omitted the garlic salt and added a total of 5tsp garlic instead. I also added three large handfuls of baby spinach torn up into pieces a little, and about 1/4c parmesan to the mix. It was so yummy I'm lucky it made it to the shells at all! Even my 3 yr old thought it was yummy as is. I had enough for two batches so I put one in the freezer and it should be great there! Thanks for a great jumping off point - it made a special meal I am looking forward to serving to guests!!

Plum Blueberry Upside Down Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2006
great treat! I used pluots instead of plums since I had them on hand and changed the vanilla extract to lemon extract and added lemon peel to the batter and lemon juice to the fruit. I liked the bright taste that the lemon cake had with the sweet fruit. Great recipe!

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2006
were great straight from the oven but didn't hold up well to store. I think I will have to warm them to make them good again. Hubby loved them, and I will make them to go with beer and spicy mustard for octoberfest.

Carrot Cheesecake Muffins

really enjoyable muffin. Made them as instructed except I added some ground ginger and some nutmeg because I like things a little spicy. Very tender and really yummy. I will definitely make these again, they look very fancy with the cheesecake filling!

Pasta with Roasted Butternut Squash and Sage

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2009
it is a good jumping off point - I can't rate it a 5 because I changed too much of it. I would rate my version a 5 though! I subbed 1c cooked chicken breast and 4 slices of bacon, chopped, for the sausage. I also added in 2c baby spinach that I cooked in the strainer when I drained the pasta. I also added 2T asiago cheese. My kids devoured it, and I loved it, too. Went great with a nice merlot.

Black-Eyed Pea Gumbo

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2010
I give this recipe as is 3 stars. It has no spices at all and is terribly bland. I give it 5 stars with some cayenne, basil and thyme, with a dash of file at the end. My kids ate it without complaint and I enjoyed it, too.

Apple Strudel Muffins

I added some spices to the batter because I like apples with spices. I also reduced the butter and added applesauce, which resulted in a delicious moist apple-y muffin.

Indonesian Satay

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2012
delish - made it exactly as written except with chicken tenders instead of cubes. Didn't know how I felt about the tomato sauce in the marinade, but it made a really delicious tender chicken. The sauce made my kids really happy - they said it tasted just like the sauce at the thai restaurant they like! I would make this again with no changes, it was really good!
