My son and my niece celebrating her birthday.
About this Cook
I live in Des Moines and am and office manager for a painting contractor. I have a son, Levi, and a daughter, Abigail (Abbi). Levi is a VERY picky eater, but is willing to try new things when he wants to! Abbi is just a baby so I plan on introducing her to all kinds of foods once she is old enough!
My favorite things to cook
Casseroles, cakes, brownies, breads (yeast and quick), Mexican, steaks, pasta...pretty much anything!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Christmas my mom would make my grandma's recipe for cutout sugar cookies. I've changed it a little over the years and my son loved decorating the cookies (and the kitchen) when he was little. My parents are great at keeping holiday food traditions alive...we have lutefisk and lefse every year.
My cooking triumphs
I started baking when I was 13 and in 4-H. I got a blue ribbon the first year I made yeast bread.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to copy my grandma's recipes. They just never seem to turn out! The only one that does is her recipe for brownies...she would make them for me every time I came home from college. I'm glad I got the recipe so I can make them whenever I want!

Baked Teriyaki Chicken
Overall flavor was awesome...great sauce. I made the mistake of covering it in the oven and it was way too runny. So, I put it in a pan on the stove and poured some of the sauce over the top and cooked over a high flame for a couple of minutes. The sauce thickened right up and tasted great!

Frozen Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls
Excellent recipe! So easy and quick to whip up. They disappeared in 3 days. I followed the recipe exactly - the only change was that I didn't use an electric mixer. Didn't taste bland at all...tasted exactly like cookie dough. My guys thought they were getting a treat and kept sneaking it from the bowl. :o)

Thumbprint Cookies IV
I was looking for a recipe to compare to cookies a co-worker used to make. These looked really close so I decided to try. I'm glad I did; however, it does need about 1/4 to 1/2 cup more flour otherwise they are very sticky and hard to roll. I just scooped out with a small ice cream scoop (after a failed attempt to roll) and indented as directed. They came out perfect! I added almond flavoring to plain white canned frosting...excellent!
