Cabbage Rolls II

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2009
I really liked this recipe. I followed others advice and doubled the sauce. I misread the recipe and put two tablespoons of worcestershire sauce (instead of two teaspoons) and we loved it. I tried cooking the cabbage in the microwave per another reviewers suggestion and didn't like the way it turned out so next time I make it I will go back to steaming the cabbage in a pot. I also baked the rolls at 350 degrees for an hour. To save time I used Uncle Ben's precooked brown and wild rice that comes in the microwave pouch. Thanks for the delicious recipe

Very good recipe. I used craisins so adjusted the sugar but otherwise left the same. Thanks for the recipe!

Brookville Hotel Cream-Style Corn

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2009
I Love this recipe. The first time I made it I followed the recipe exactly and it was really good. I am a single person though and it is a big recipe so the last time I just made one microwavable package of sweet corn and adjusted the remainder of the ingredients (I didn't add the cornstarch). I LOVE this corn and actually look forward to eating a vegetable.

Russian Tea Cakes I

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2009
I enjoyed this cookie. When it came time to coat the cookie I put some powdered sugar in a quart size bag, dropped the cookie in and shook it. I did the batch and let them sit about 15 minutes than did a second coating. There was a nice even coating around the cookie.

Russian Mushroom and Potato Soup

I Made this recipe exactly as submitted for a family gathering during the Christmas season. After preparing the day before I put it in a crock pot for easy transportation and to reheat. My three siblings all requested the recipe. It is delicious. Thanks for the recipe.

I thought this was an OK recipe. Easy to make. We added light sour cream to our individual bowls and thought it added better flavor.

Caramel Shortbread Squares

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2008
I had a little difficulty with this recipe. The shortbread dough was stickier than I anticipated and it crumbles off of the other layers. I did prick the shortbread with a fork after it came out of the oven and I cooled each layer before adding the next in the freezer. I don't know if I cooked the caramel layer too long (I followed the directions exactly) but it is really hard, more like hard candy and I had a difficult time cutting the bars. I ended up following another cooks advice and freezing the pan overnight then breaking the bars into pieces by hitting it with my rolling pin. That didn't help the shortbread to stay attached either. Taste is really good but presentation isn't so great so I am just sharing this with the family and not putting it on any cookie trays.

Pistachio Cream Cheese Fingers

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2008
I made these cookies a couple of days ago and I am happy with the results. I read many of the reviews and tried the recipe with adding 1/2 cup finely chopped pistachios. Since I was making them for Halloween I added a splash of green food dye to make them a brighter color. I put about 1 cup of the dough at a time in a disposable pastry bag, snipped the end off and piped the dough unto parchment paper lined cookie sheets. Even with the extra nuts added the dough piped well and I didn't have to get my hands dirty. After making the chocolate drizzle I poured it into a quart size plastic bag, snipped the end off and it drizzled beautifully onto the cookies. I think it would be fun to make the cookies into finger shapes and try adding an "Almond fingernail" for Halloween next year. Thanks for the recipe!

Party Punch III

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2007
I liked this recipe. I served it at a baby shower for a little girl so it was a great color. It was simple to make and worked well in my punch fountain. I also froze some of the fruit punch with orange slices to float in the fountain which kept it cool and was pretty. I thought the flavors went well together and it was a good compliment to the food since it wasn't too sweet.

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2007
I enjoyed this recipe. I brought it to a July 4th celebration so I made a few of the cinnamon chips star shaped by using a cookie cutter. I used spray butter from a pump and thought the chips turned out good.

Yummy Roll Ups

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2007
I love these as an appetizer because you can make them the day before. I have made this exact recipe many times and enjoyed it. The last time I made this recipe I used flavored cream cheese, finely chopped the dill pickles, and added a little chopped green onions for color. I thought I was able to spread the filling more evenly and didn't have pickle ends like I do when I don't chop the pickles.

Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2007
I liked this recipe because of the simple ingredients. I did make a few changes for personal preference. One was to use premade refrigerated garlic and herb mashed potatoes. This really speeds up the preparation part of the dish. I also added a bag of frozen pearl onions prepared as per the bags instructions. My family loves onions. The other change was to add cheese during the last five minutes of baking. This is a very good dish that I will make again. I plan on trying it with frozen mixed vegetables in the future.

Bierock Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2007
I just made this this weekend and really enjoyed it. I didn't read any of the reviews and the only modification I made was to use frozen chopped onions which really speeded up the preparation process. I had leftovers the next day and still thought it was good though I did dip it in ketchup. I love ketchup. I liked this recipe as is but I also could see modifying it in the future to give it a little more pep as other reviewers suggested. Thanks for the recipe.

Diane's Colcannon

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2007
I made this for a St. Patrick's day party and received positive feedback. I was even asked for the recipe. I did add more bacon (about doubled) and served this in a crock pot so I put about 5 tbsp butter slices evenly on top. Will definately make again and not just for St. Patrick's day.
