Broccoli with Garlic Butter and Cashews

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2012
Delicious! We used less than half of the amount of butter prescribed and it was amazing! I couldn't believe how much broccoli we ate!

Gramma's Date Squares

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2012
This is delicious! The crust is crunchy and crumbly and the filling is super sweet. After reading some of the reviews I made some changes to this recipe. Instead of pastry flour I used 1/2 of a cup of all-purpose flour and 1/2 of a cup of wheat flour. I cut the brown sugar down to 1/2 of a cup as well. I also used a 1/2 cup of butter and added in a little less than 1/4 of a cup of olive oil. For the date filling, I omitted the brown sugar and increased the water to about 2 cups as it kept evaporating. To make the filling chunk-free I pureed it in a blender. Then I added vanilla extract and cinnamon, instead of lemon juice. This is a great recipe that can easily be adapted to make it healthier!

Raisin and Spice Brown Rice

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2012
This rice went great with my Asian-themed dinner. I omitted the coriander because I didn't have any of it and I also used my rice cooker instead of a saucepan. I cooked my rice (1 1/2 cups) with water and left out the butter and bay leaf. I added a few walnuts to the rice and I substituted soy sauce for teriyaki sauce. My siblings did not like this rice because of the onions, but I thought it was tasty and flavorful.

Green Bean Sesame Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2012
Delicious! I only used 1 1/2 tablespoons of olive oil and I added about a tablespoon of teriyaki sauce to it. My family ate the whole thing! I might decrease the amount of sesame seeds next time, but this is a great recipe!

Savory Wheat Crescents

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2012
I enjoyed this crescents. Instead of the all-purpose flour I used white wheat flour and instead of spreading butter on the rolled out dough I used olive oil. My sibblings did not care for these crescents, but my parents liked them. There were probably too dense for my sibblings because of the wheat flour and they also would have liked them to be extra cheesey. Still, these are fun to make and roll!

Swedish Cinnamon Twists

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2011
My whole family loved these! They taste like sweet, soft pretzels. The recipe was also very forgiving to my mistakes. If your dough won't rise try putting it in the oven at about 175 degrees F. Watch it carefully, you don't want a cooked ball of dough. These are so tasty!

Light Cinnamon Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2011
My sister said that this coffee cake is way better than the store bought type! I switched the canola oil for olive oil, used 2% milk, one egg, and oatmeal instead of walnuts. I also added more butter (no margarine) to the topping and cinnamon to the batter. I put half of the topping in between the batter and the other half on top of the loaves. I thought that this recipe would make many servings, but it only produced two mini loaves. I liked that this recipe used half whole wheat flour instead of all white flour. This is a tasty, versatile recipe!

Unyeasted Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2011
This bread was the perfect addition to our dinner! It is plain, but it tastes great with butter or jam. I substituted bread flour for an equal amount of all-purpose flour. Also, I used olive oil for the vegetable oil. A simple recipe for a simple bread!
