Bacon Wrapped Barbeque Shrimp

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2012
I love these... I make these to impress on the grill. I precook the bacon put several bacon wrapped shrimp on each long pre-soaked bamboo skewers (and I have had no trouble keeping them wrapped up in the fridge for a couple hours at this stage- so you can make them ahead ) and when ready, grill them until the shrimp are nearly done, then wipe on some BBQ sause just before I take them off the grill. That little char from the grill take them to a whole new level.

Best Bourbon Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2014
I really liked this yet felt it was a little too sweet so next time I will add more heat seasoning....but overall the flavor blend was wonderful. I had extra sauce so I put it in a jar for another meal. thanks for a great recipe.

Sweet Potato and Black Bean Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2014
I loved this. I roasted the pepper with the potatoes and then decided later that I wanted more potato so I diced up two more and added them with the tomatoes and both were good but I think searing the spices to the potatoes during the roasting really added to the flavor. Roasting the potatoes really improved the texture. I will roast sweet potatoes in these spices again to serve alone, they were so good (maybe that is why I needed more for the chili). I made this with the Awesome and easy creamy corn casserole and they were great. thanks for a great recipe. Ymmmmmmm.

Awesome and Easy Creamy Corn Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2014
Wonderful. I used the melt the butter in the pan trick and I am sure that saved me a lot of work. I did not have a can of corn (used one can creamed corn) and used two loaf pans and it was perfect in 45 minutes. I loved it. Thanks.

West African Peanut Stew

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2014
I just made this and stuck as close to the printed recipe as I had ingredients. I loved this and will make it again. I had to substitute Siracha for heat and romaine for greens and it was wonderful. I don't know that I will want a plain sweet potato again. Thanks

Roasted Red Pepper Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2014
I LOVE this and everyone that I have made it for either wants me to make it again or give them the recipe. Like others, I play with my food and used milk (2%) and cornstarch for thickener and a little more cheese (so much for saved calories), the last time it was a 4 cheese pasta blend. I also have added mushrooms which I love with the red peppers. When red peppers were on sale I roasted a bunch under the broiler and froze them and they were just as wonderful. Thanks for my favorite past sauce.

White Cheese Chicken Lasagna

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2014
DANG THIS RECIPE; This could cost me in extra pounds....What a wonderful recipe. I did some normal swap outs (whole wheat penne, cottage cheese, spinach, chicken thighs) and it was still crazy wonderful. I froze half of it so that I would not eat it all and I will update if that creates a problem. thanks for a great recipe..I think.

Surprising and Spicy Peanut Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2014
I was looking for a dish to use broccoli slaw and found this referenced in the Thai chicken Broccoli Slaw. This is a great recipe and I will use this a lot. I added more peanut butter once I added the chicken and vegies and I think it could use some ginger. But this is my new Thai peanut sauce. thanks for posting this.

Butternut Squash Bake

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2013
I was looking for a new, more savory, way to make squash and this is wonderful...marvelous... I like both squash and blue cheese and while I did not think they would go well together, this is really good. I had to sub the bread crumbs with the only cracker I had, an herb and garlic buttery cracker and I put in more blue cheese, and I do not regret it. I will definitely make this again and start bringing this to events so people think I am marvelous too....Thanks for a great recipe.

This is wonderful. I thought that the (brown) sugar transferred to the beets yet it did not fail to impress.

Merenges

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2013
These remind me of my mother's favorites so I wanted to make them for her for Christmas. I did not have cream of tarter and I recall her recipe had vinegar so I made them with vinegar. I cooked them until most pulled off the parchment paper (I do not trust my oven but think it was at about 225-250 and cooked the for 30 mn) and then turned off the oven to let them cool in the oven. They are wonderful and exactly as I remember them. Thanks for, what I trust will be, making an 87 year old woman happy.

Pumpkin Roll Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2014
This recipe is 1/4 tsp. nutmeg off from one I cut from a newspaper years ago. It also recommended using parchment paper. Forgive me if this is too obvious, but when releasing the cake from the parchment, don't lift the paper straight up, bring it back low/against itself and it will release without additional tools. I always roll from the long side and cut into two cakes, wrap in plastic then foil and freeze in a freezer zip bag so that I can whip one out at a moments notice and it is wonderful even months later. Great recipe. I love this site.

Chef John's Pumpkin Pie

I made this for our Thanksgiving pie this year and got great reviews from the family...the biggest was "How did you keep it from cracking? I have never seen pumpkin pie not crack." I did not use the 5 spice instead using more nutmeg and I think it was great. thanks for these great recipes.

Green Salad with Cranberry Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2012
I made this for my family for Christmas and EVERYONE loved it, even the young picky eaters. The only changes I made were walnuts, craisens, feta and stevia blend. Both my sister-in-law and new bride niece took home copies of the recipe; that’s a nice gift. Thanks Nancy and all those who gave us reviews, and substitution ideas... I doubt I would have gotten them to try it with blue cheese and now they are nearly there without knowing it...

I followed recipe very closely except I used the wonderful Roasted-vegetable stock on this site and a quick cooking barley. This is a great soup . I will freeze servings and let you know if it is not great each time I prepare one.
