I'm a working mother of two. I'm married to my very best friend and couldn't be happier with life. Before having kids, I would spend hours in the kitchen whipping up extravagant meals to see what I could do and to test out my taste buds. Now that I have two kids and am working 50+ hours per week, I have a battle with my menu each Sunday. Cooking has always been my stress-relief but it's hard finding the time these days to cook extravagant meals. We recently converted over to veganism (LOVE IT)and do our best to eat non-processed & organic foods. We are a part of a local CSA and grow many of our own vegetables. My mom always had a huge garden and canned/froze most of our meals so it's important to me to be able to feed my family food we've grown ourselves. I hope to share my passion for cooking with my children and show them how much joy you can get from cooking your own meal instead of going out for one. Seeing them devour the food I've made gives me such great satisfaction.
My favorite things to cook
The things I love cooking the most are the things that make my family go for third helpings. Knowing I knocked the recipe out of the park and mastered techniques that I am not completely confident in is exciting.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Eating dinner each night and huge Sunday morning breakfasts with my family at the table is my absolute favorite family tradition. It's where we enjoy fantastic food prepared by either me or my husband and talk about the day to one another. Cooking is my passion and eating good food with great company is the best part of my day.
My cooking triumphs
This is going to sound trivial and maybe a little goofy but my mom makes the BEST (and I mean the BEST) gravy of all time. For years and years I tried to duplicate what she did (even though I had her write down her recipe) and it never turned out quite as delicious until one snowy Wisconsin night when I finally mastered it! Ever since then, I've gotten far more confident in my cooking (in all aspects).
My cooking tragedies
I've had quite a few tragedies but who hasn't (: I like to experiment with things and try new recipes so there are going to be winners and some that are not so good. I like to try recipes a couple of times before I throw it out entirely but make changes to each to see if I can get it "just right". Sometimes I can but sometimes I can't. (:
