Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2014
TASTY! These are the new hit at our house - made them Christmas Day and heard only positive remarks (and the empty slow cooker spoke to how much our group liked them). I made the recipe with one *slight* alteration - I used Herb & Garlic cream cheese - because I wanted them to have a bit of punch. Everything else I did exactly as stated. The cooking time was perfect and the potatoes (with skins on) were easy to mash. I used someone's earlier suggestion of having a clean terry cloth dishtowel under the lid to collect moisture and to avoid the potatoes from becoming watery - worked like a charm! I stirred every hour or so and in total mine were in the slow cooker about 5 hours. This served 10 people (with many taking seconds) and nothing was left. Will make again!

Brown Sugar Smokies

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2014
What is there not to like? Bacon + brown sugar??? Pretty darn good. And easy to do. Followed recipe exactly. Secured bacon with a toothpick and placed them on a broil pan with the bottom foiled lined (super easy clean up). Cooked about 15 min EACH side - until the sugar was melted and gooey and the bacon was sizzling. These were a huge hit Christmas Day and I'll be making them again.

Slow-Cooker Barbecue Ribs

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2014
I thought this recipe was very good. I liked the idea of cooking for 15min/e side at the start to drain off some of the grease. I cooked as directed in slow cooker (8 hours on slow) and the result was fall off the bone ribs - PERFECT! Because my family isn't big on ketchup, I did make a slight alternation (in place of ketchup, I used 2C of Sweet Baby Ray BBQ sauce). I also cut the amount of vinegar in half (personal preference). My family enjoyed them and I will be using this again in the future!

Luscious Slush Punch

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2012
I made this for our Christmas Eve party this year and can say, without a doubt, this will be the punch recipe we use every year! I made it exactly as listed - no changes at all. I made this about a month before the party and took it out of the freezer about 1.5 hours before the party. I grabbed the Wal-Mart brand lemon lime soda (they were out of 7-up) and will continue using the knock-off soda as it tasted terrific. It stayed slushy ALL day - very impressed. Some adults added a shot of CIROC vodka to their cups and it was terrific. I was asked for the recipe no less than 6 times that day and have been asked to make it for a New Years party. So, all in all, an absolute success!

Cocktail Meatballs

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2012
I made this for a Christmas Eve party and it was an instant hit! To make life easier, I made the meatballs a couple weeks ahead and put them in the freezer. I didn't have fresh onion, so I used the suggestion of another reviewer and just added a package of onion soup mix. It gave the meatballs a nice spice and made it a little easier to prepare (saved chopping onions/tears!). I made the sauce the night before - made it exactly to the recipe, no adjustments or substitutions. At 7am the morning of the event, I put the frozen meatballs in my crockpot, added the sauce and put it on low. By 2pm (the start of the party) it was bubbling and smelling amazing. They were an instant hit! Will be making these again for sure!

Mrs. Fields Cookie Recipe II

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2012
Maybe I did something wrong - but these came out way too dry for my liking. They fell apart while lifting off the cookie sheet. I will try again and fiddle with amounts to see if that helps.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2012
I made this last Christmas Eve as an emergency recipe (the dog ate my mother's beautiful pot roast raw before she could pop it in the oven). I was able to throw everything in my slow cooker and be out the door to my in-laws on time - and returned to my place for dinner (8 hours later) to a PERFECT dinner for my side of the family. Talk about saving the day!!! I didn't make any adjustments to the recipe - just followed exactly. I did opt to cook it on low as I'm a firm believer pot roasts need to be cooked s-l-o-w. Best part was the soup and dry onion mix make a perfect gravy - which saved another step on a very busy day!
