Inspired by Julia Child's "My Life in France", I decided to actually start cooking, rather than just throwing quick meals together. I can follow a recipe well, but don't know much about improvising or creating.
My favorite things to cook
Right now I'm just exploring.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom used to make the best Christmas fruitcake anyone has ever eaten. Every year, she'd pass the bowl around so everyone got to add a stir for good luck. Not eating that cake as soon as it came out of the oven was the hardest part of my childhood.
My cooking triumphs
I recently made a perfect pie crust from scratch. I don't know if I can do it again, but that one time it was heaven.
My cooking tragedies
Attempting to make fudge with no candy thermometer - I ruined a pot. And I always forget about the last tray of cookies in a batch, and burn them.
