Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili

Wow Deb and thanks for the easiest dang chili recipe I ever made - and with all the ingredients already in the house! I used 1 lb. ground chuck and 1 lb. ground turkey and added 1 can of pinto beans to the mix. Made a mistake and used the whole pack of the chili seasoning mix, but it came out tasting great. I recommend using either fresh garlic or garlic powder because the taste to me is the best. The nicest thing was that you could spice the recipe up or down depending on the type of salsa you used. I just browned the meat and onions, and threw everything into the crockpot and forgot about it for 8 hours on low. Came home to yummy smells from the kitchen. Next time I will add green and read bell pepper. Chili cheese fries? You all are killing me! LOL -------------------------------------------------------- I originally wrote this review over 7 years ago, and It is still my go to chili recipe because it is so adaptable. Chili season is approaching and I can't wait to make it again. I wish I could give this 10 stars as it is that good........ BTW, I did have to indulge in those chili cheese fries and they were heavenly - as were the chili dogs and chiliburgers, and mexican omletes. LOL Debzdoo, you are my chili queen!

Reuben Sandwich II

YUMMY, YUMMY, YUMMY!!!!! HAVE USED NEARLY ALL VARIATIONS - SUCH AS BARVARIAN SAUERKRAUT, PASTRAMI, MARBLE RYE, AND HEATING THE KRAUT BEFORE GRILLING THE SANDWICH. IN A PINCH I HAVE ALSO USED BUDDIG SLICED CORN BEEF. ONE OF THE BEST VARIATIONS I HAVE MADE THOUGH IS TO USE VIENNA DELI TURKEY PASTRAMI (AVAILABLE IN CHICAGO AND ELSEWHERE). TOTALLY AWESOME! BUT I WOULD NEVER USE MUSTARD................... SORRY!

Bachelor's Creamy Pumpkin Soup

WOW, this recipe is great. I was looking for a way to use up some canned pumpkin and thought soup would be an unusual choice. Saw this recipe and thought that it was quick and easy - so I decided to use it. Mind you, I have only had pumpkin soup once and it was from some gourmet recipe that required fresh pumpkin and a long list of ingredients. This simple recipe was much better than that one. I made it exactly as called for and found that it was a wee bit bland, although I could definitely taste the pumkin and only used enough water to get it to the right consistancy. So as several reviewers suggested, I spiced it up. I added onion 1 tsp onion powder, 1 Tbs. sugar, 1 Tbs. curry powder - and 2 tsp of a Morrocan spice blend (cumin, paprika, cinnamon, corriander, ginger) I had left over from another recipe. YUM! This was total perfection! Now we like things savory, so that you may want to adjust the amounts, but this is delicious and definitely a keeper. My cream of potato soup (Campbells) had chunks of potatoes, so I purred it with a stick blender before serving. Thanks, Katherine, for the wonderfully easy recipe. There is a bit left over - and it is MINE.

The Best Chicken Salad Ever

YUM! Finding a chicken salad recipe as versatile as this is great. In its original form, it is great for sandwiches (although I too used mayo instead of "salad dressing"). I also experimented with using some and making a chicken pasta salad. To the spread I added: 1/2 green and 1/2 red bell peppers, wasabi mayo for creamy salad dressing, 1/2-3/4 cup finely shredded cheese and added this to cooked rotini pasta. Was this ever good! There is something about the coleslaw dressing that gives it such a great "sweet twang". Thanks so much, Richard, for sharing this great recipe with so many possibilities.

Grilled Salmon I

Yet another recipe from this site tht I crave! Made this exactly as written (well OK, I used lemon juice and ground pepper separately) on the Foreman grill. YUMMY! I diod as others had suggested and saved the leftover marinade for extra cooking and thickening and drizzled the "sauce" over fresh spinich to wilt it and served salmon on top. TO DIE FOR! Then I decided to experiment by tweaking the recipe slightly. I took out the pepper, left in everything else and added minced fresh ginger. I then sliced up some bok choy and sauteed it a bit to just get it slightly softened. Again I took the "sauce" and drizzled it over and the salmon on top. YUM YUM YUM!!! Both ways are a big hit in this family - even the cat comes around to get some. LOL THANKS, TINA.

Home Fries

I used this as a side dish to accompany simple grilled chicken, and boy was it ever a winner. I love home fried potatoes and the idea of putting them together with the broccoli slaw mix was fine with me because I love it too. Only addtition was that I used 4 medium russet potatoes. I will make this all the time now for any meal. YUMMY! Thanks Mann's!

Mushroom Blue Cheese Turkey Burgers

Yum! Yum! Yum! This is a great burger - turkey or otherwise. Only change I made was to use worchestershire sauce instead of soy and added a bit more cheese to the mixture. Served on toasted buns with tomato slices and additional bleu cheese dressing for those who wanted more. Have also varied the recipe by adding herbed feta cheese instead of bleu and serving in a pita with cucumber sauce. Thanks so much for the recipe, Trish, It is a big favorite at our house!

Sesame Udon Noodles

YUM! I used peapods instead of snap peas (bought the wrong ones) ,added about 1/3 of a large cucumber cut into thin matchstick pieces and some shredded carrot. Guess you could really use any vegetables that you would put into a stirfry. Next time I will add some leftover chicken or shrimp. Thanks for the recipe, Baja!

Super Yummy! The first time I made it, I followed the recipe exactly and WOW I was hooked. The second time I made it, I had no fresh potatoes in the house so I used (horrors) instant that I keep on hand for emergencies. I also used some "sweet meat" given to me by a neighbor instead of the bacon, and threw in some garlic. I don't know what I was thinking because I topped it with a bit of finely shredded Cheddar cheese. Well this served as my main dish that night - and I could have eaten the whole pot. Definitely a keeper - and not just for St. Paddy's Day. Thanks, Diane!

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

This recipe is YUMMY and very versatile. I used this to make stirfry chinese veggies with tofu ande udon noodles. This was fantastic! I had originally intended to use this for teriyaki chicken wings, but Thought I would try this with the stirfry inst4ead. I had everythihng in the house except cider vinegar, so I used rice vinegar with a bit more garlic and ginger. The recipe was a bit sweet, but perfect after I added a dab of Wasabi. Now I can't wait ti make this on chicken or beef.......Thanks Marian! Definitely a keeper.

Veggie Ranch Pizza

Wow! This is great pizza! Never would have thought it with the ranch dressing. Have made this twice......first time I followed the recipe exactly but used a garlic ranch dressing as sauce. Great! The garlic added a nice flavor. The second time I used Ragu light alfredo sauce as a base cause I was craving the pizza and was out of ranch dressing. This was equally as great! Big hit at my house. Love all the cheese too! Thanks, Darlene - this is definitely a favorite.

Texas Chicken Quesadillas

Although this recipe is in the Appetizer category, I serve mine as a main course for 4 with the original recipe. Easy way to have dinner on the table in minutes. Round it out with a green or avocado salad. Perhaps flan for dessert? MMMMMMMMMMM Thanks, Michelle

This is excellent! I made it just as the recipe said, but cooked it on a grill instead of under the broiler. Came out just great! Served with Peanut Noodles from this site and had a great meal. This definitely is a family favorite. Thanks Dakota!

Balsamic Bleu Cheese Salad

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy! This salad is great and has so many possibilities. I have made it with grilled chicken and grilled steak sliced thinly - and both were sensational! Another option is shrimp or crab. Once I was out of bleu cheese and I used feta and it was equally as good. I will make this again and again! 5 big stars.

Authentic Thousand Island Dressing

I must concur with all the other reviewers. This dressing is wonderful! I used to love 1000 Islnd, but found that over the years the ready made stuff has bvecome too sweet or cloyingly sour. And what is up with the color. So when I ran out of all other dressings at home and saw I had all of the ingtreds to make this, I decided to see how it came out. Well, I really love this! Mine came out slightly pinkish - from the red peppers I guess, The taste is perfect, and even before I had the salad made I was dipping veggies into it. Only additions were salt. a smidge onion powder (1 tsp.) and black pepper. Thanks, Local 1000 Islander!

Grilled Portobello and Mozzarella

This is such a great recipe! I make what I like to call Portobello Pizza "Burgers" from this. I substitute pizza sauce for the marinara, and place each grilled mushroom filled with the mozzarella and pepper mixture in a foil packet back over the grill for a few minutes until all is melted stem side up inside. I then serve each mushroom on either foccacia bread or Italian roll. I also offer a store bought gardinera relish. This has been a definite hit with young and old - and a "sneeky" way to get kids to eat something besides a regular burger at a cookout. This is a defintie keeper! Thanks, Valerie!

Cousin David's Slow Cooker Brisket

I have eaten brisket made this way since I was a little girl. The only thing my family did was add sliced mushrooms to the rest of the ingrediets. On Jewish holidays Mom would add a kishke to cook in the pot during the last hour or so. YUMMY! Your Cousin's legacy certainly lives on. Also just a note to you not familiar with brisket. Brisket and corned beef are not the same thing, although a corned beef is made out of a brisket of beef. Corned beef has been cured, or "pickled" before it is cooked - and has a very distinct taste all its own. The Guiness rcipe on this site is wonderful for corned beef. However the BRISKET called for here is just the plain cut of beef. I can't imagine what a horrible mess this recipe would be if you used a corned beef............

Feta Cheese Turkey Burgers

YUMMY, YUMMY, YUMMY! Who knew usually dry turkey burgers could taste so good? Made the recipe for Memorial Day cookout and everyone raved. Here are some tips for serving. I used fresh spinach leaves, sliced onion and roasted red pepper as a base for the burger in the pita - and topped it all off with a spoon of cucumber sauce. There are now brands of feta that have olives, sun-dried tomato, and basil already incorporated into the cheese - and this makes a wonderful alternative to plain feta. Also, if turkey burgers are a bit dry, use half to 3/4 the amount of turkey and supplement with lean ground beef. This does help make it a bit more juicy. This recipe is definitely a keeper! Leah's Chicken Soup

Leah, this soup brings back many wonderful memories of family and holiday gatherings. It is very similar to my mother's except for the Dill - which adds a nice touch. I will be making this for the Holidays tonight with both noodles and matzah balls added, as is our family tradition. Thank you again for such a great recipe.
