Quinoa and Black Beans

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2014
This recipe is perfect as is. Many people said they only used one can of beans? Well that means you took out a lot of flavor and fiber and ended up with a bunch of quinoa. I love typical black beans and rice cajun style so instead of corn try a can of diced tomatoes with green chilis and add a tsp of tumeric, the tumeric makes it taste exactly like the black beans and rice you will get in the south at restaurants and the tomatoes are a must at our house. Very good and healthy, this is now our regular Meatless Monday dinner!

Chicken with Garlic, Basil, and Parsley

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2014
This was really very good, I worried it would be bland but for a healthy recipe the flavor was wonderful. I did drizzle a little balsamic on top the tomatoes with the sprinkle of parmesan. Was very tasty!

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2014
This recipe is not bad as is but definitly not my favorite of the many I have tried on this site, it's a bit bland and do not slice the bananas. My favorite remains the "Best Ever Banana Bread" recipe by Rose on this website it uses buttermilk. I think the recipe would be good but with lots of changes using mashed bananas, half brown sugar, oil or applesauce instead of butter adding vanilla and lemon juice etc. to add some flavor it is certainly not rich as the name leads you to believe but it is an ok recipe just not my favorite

Slow Cooker Beef Pot Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2013
Liked this recipe ok, but definitely not on the top of our favorite roast recipes. Everyone liked it, everyone ate it but said they liked some of our others better. Was a little herby tasting maybe I used too much but it was certainly tender and easy to make

Homemade Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2013
Pretty good recipe, very simple to follow exactly as is. My kids still prefer my regular mac and cheese with velveeta lol but for a special occasion, holiday gathering, or company it's great

Blue Cheese and Pear Tartlets

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2013
Did not like these, a friend had them at a party so I looked up this recipe and gave it a try. They were quite tasteless, the blue cheese and pear combo is soo bland, they looked quite lovely but need some definite work, an addition of something to give them flavor

Fish Tacos

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2013
I was pleasantly suprised with these. My husband loves fish tacos of any kind me not so much. I have tried many and hated them. I love fish esp cod, so I gave this recipe a try mostly hopeing my husband would enjoy them...we both did. I would recommend cutting the red pepper down, we both love spicy food and it was a bit spicy for us with an entire tsp and there was about 5x too much sauce we drenched ours in it and had lots left over but overall the recipe was a great base to start with then add what you like

Apple Squares

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2013
I made these as written, we liked them pretty well but would make multiple minor changes to further better them. Next time will follow others rec and double recipe, definitely use at least 2 and half to 3 apples, cut down sugar etc. All in all a good base recipe

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2013
I made this recipe just as written and it was not bad but not great either and a little bland and super over cooked. 2nd time around I followed a combination of other's reviews and was suprised and pleased at how good it was! I only cooked the pork for 30 minutes before and after adding sauce, doubled the amout of sauce using 1 can Golden Mushroom soup and 1 can cream of mushroom, which makes huge difference in flavor, added a container of sauteed mushrooms and some chives plus a dash of red pepper, for color to the sauce before covering meat . Not only did it come out amazingly tender and with enough sauce for dipping the meat into the flavor was perfect much more flavorful without being too rich would have given my second batch 5 stars!

Ginger Glazed Mahi Mahi

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2013
soooo good! We love fish and mahi mahi is one of my favorites. We are always looking for new and greats seafood recipes as we eat it so often. We typically grill or bake Mahi Mahi so I wasn't expecting this recipe to be that great, the marinade seemed like it would be too mild....however the key is cooking the marinade down until it is very thick almost syrup and wow bold yet smooth flavor we used ground ginger and minced garlic for stronger flavor and served with rice whice was awesome to soak up extra marinade!

Fresh Southern Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2013
we love this recipe, my husband requests it often! We do make slight changes per our taste: we use 4 bags frozen peaches bc we like plenty of fruit in our cobbler and we use more cinnamon and nutmeg. we scoop on vanilla ice cream and its a hit

Roasted Lemon Herb Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2013
This is a great recipe, not my favorite mind you but a good one to mix in and occasionally so we aren't always using the same roasted chicken recipe. We used a 6lb chicken so all I did was set the oven to 375 and kept everything else the same. The seasoning with the lemon was nice, we put our used lemons inside the chicken as we always put a lemon or 2 in all our chicken and turkeys when we bake them, and everyone liked it...especially the gravy made from the lemony seasoned juices!

Cabbage Fat-Burning Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2013
We did not like this soup. I have made it twice and even my husband whom loves cabbage soups hated it too bland, not enough veggies, and not much nutritinal value except the tomatoes especially if you use canned veggies. We are a family of soup lovers but overall this was just not one of our things and noone lost any weight after being forced to eat it for several days disappointed

Jamie's Minestrone

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2013
This soup is absolutely wonderful, just as good as a restaurants. The only thing I change bc it's alittle bland for us is to use 2qts of pure tomatoe juice instead of the sauce and water (healthier and less sugar) double the garlic and add more seasoning per taste but otherwise great soup I also add either a few chopped up tomatoes or a can of diced tomatoes and often 2 cans beans makes it just that touch more rich and hearty as we don't like watery soup

Perfect Pita Chips

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2013
These turned out great the only reason not 5 stars is because I left out the garlic salt origionally specified and they were still soooo salty. Second time I cut salt in half and LIGHTLY covered in the garlic powder and they were perfect. We use the whole grain flax pita its soo good and we have played with seasonings and they always come out great but we like them plain the best. Great with spin dip or hummus drizzled w/evoo

Hot Artichoke Spinach Dip

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2013
This recipe is so simple and soooo good! My family loves their spin dip so it's the first thing we order when dining out for our appetizer....well not anymore we will probably be making this weekly! It also makes a large enough amount for entertaining and goes great with the "Perfect Pita Chips" recipe on this site. I followed this recipe except for following suggestions to add just a little chicken broth to make it smooth and creamy which also helps it from getting thick when reheating. Hope you all enjoy this we sure did

Black Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2013
This is a definite 5 star recipe after following other's recommendations that is. Chicken broth, 2 tsp cumin, 2tsp tumeric, 1 tsp paprika, 1 tsp salt, and along with the cayenne add 1 can tomatoes w/chilis. I also added some green onions just because we had them and it really added to the color and appearance. On it's own this recipe is ok just very bland
