Pesto Torta (Layered Spread)

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2006
I have made this several times for parties and I NEVER have any left over! People always ask for the recipe and are amazed at how easy it is. I tell them, "If you can stack things, you can make this recipe." I use a 5" diameter springform pan and (as suggested by another reviewer) I slice the cream cheese and form it into a patty shape to fit the pan.

Cheese Lover's Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2006
I took the advice of previous reviewers and browned the chicken before putting into casserole dish. I also added black olives and a small can of mushrooms. My husband and I both loved it - it is even better the next day.

Campbell's® Cheesy Chicken and Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2008
Wow. This is pretty good to be this easy. Add a little Worcestershire, hot sauce and a tablespoon of mayo and it is out of this world.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2008
Easy and delicious. My toddler LOVED this and he is not much of a meat eater. My husband joked that I "could make this every day." Instead of powdered ginger I used fresh, and added a dash of sesame oil. But otherwise followed the instructions as written, basting every 10 minutes. I may try others' suggestions for pouring 1/2 over chicken at beginning and 1/2 at mid-point of baking time just to save having to run back into the kitchen every 10 minutes.

Chinese Lion's Head Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2008
My husband loved this, but I didn't care for it. I thought it was a little bland. Chili-garlic paste helped...

Homemade Pancake Mix

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2008
I just made these this morning and they were wonderful! However, you MUST add 1 tsp. salt to the dry mix or they will be bland. Provided you make this addition, they will be great. To the reviewer whose pancakes were flat - you may want to check the date on your baking powder and/or baking soda. Elderly baking powders or sodas will not give you the lift you require. I, too, am guilty of keeping both these items for far longer than I should because I simply don't use them up fast enough.

Moussaka

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
My one year old LOVES this, and that sells it for me. When mine comes out of the oven it is pretty runny, but the next day it is much improved. The first night I usually just serve it over rice. It is really delicious, but to get the full five stars it would need to live up to the moussaka served at our local Greek diner... and it just doesn't.

Pork Chops for the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2008
If you are not feeling like putting in a whole lot of effort, this is a good recipe. Not great, but not bad. And it certainly is easy. Just not a whole lot that is really special going on here. Maybe fresh ginger rather than powdered would help... I may make this again if I am pressed for time, but it won't be in heavy rotation at my house.

Apple Harvest Pound Cake with Caramel Glaze

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2008
This is pretty good. But like others I doubled the cinnamon after tasting the batter and realizing there wasn't enough. Other than that, and baking for 70 minutes at 325 (too many people suggesting that to ignore) I made this exactly as written. This needs more spice for my taste. Next time I will add allspice and cloves, like in my mother's apple cupcake recipe. The glaze is nice, but next time I will try a thicker caramel frosting.

Moroccan Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2008
This is really wonderful soup. I was out of celery so I used celery salt, since some of the reviewers had said the soup needed extra salt anyway. I also added a little cinnamon, per other reviewers advice. I cooked it for about 6 hours on low in my crock pot - it was delicious!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2008
As per another reviewer's suggestion, I added an additional tsp of vanilla. Otherwise I made this recipe as written. It was my first time making homemade sugar cookies and they came out really nicely. It is a very simple recipe that renders a nice result. I may toy around with adding different flavorings, citrus zest or spices to add a little zing, but this made a really nice cookie. I used the Decorator Frosting recipe from this site for the cookies and I was really pleased with the result.

Decorator Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2008
This is a really easy frosting to make. It is very sweet but pairs well with the Best Rolled Sugar Cookies recipe from this site. My husband and I made Halloween Cookies - ghosts, pumpkins, etc., and the only thing I would do differently next time is use a clear imitation vanilla so that my white icing stays really white.

After-Christmas Turkey Potpie

Really yummy! I had to use cream of chicken soup, because that is what I had on hand. But otherwise I made this exactly as directed and it was WONDERFUL. My one year old was crazy about it, too!

Hearty Turkey Soup with Parsley Dumplings

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2008
Really yummy!! Will cook the dumplings longer next time and follow another reviewer's suggestion for cooking 10 minutes without cover and 10 with cover. Didn't have rutabaga but substituted leftover boiled potatoes instead. Will try rutabaga next time.

Grandma's Apple Dumplings

This is really good. I may use less OJ next time because it makes a LOT of sauce. Great with some vanilla ice cream.

This is really quite good - and I even used cheap canned crab. I would love to try it with the good stuff.
