Wife to one, mom to two, I cook not just for sustenance but as my chief hobby. My husband is a diabetic who grew up eating deep South delights, so grilled chicken and lettuce pretty quickly lost their charm for him after he was diagnosed. I try hard to balance taste with good sense for him. I also cook for my friends, though, so not everything is diabetic friendly or something it would be wise to have daily!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake bread--and my husband loves to eat it, so that works out. I like to replace convenience foods with authentic originals; flat breads are my current interest. I enjoy traditional arts of canning and slow food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Good old-fashioned Southern tastes, family recipes lightened for my husband while retaining their flavor.
My cooking tragedies
Too many to list, but I didn't cook much growing up. My first real effort to cook as an adult was awful--a stew I made my then-boyfriend. The meat was stringy, the flavor was bland, but he choked it down anyway, and with a smile!
