Mrs. Sigg's Fresh Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2012
This was my first time making a fresh pumpkin pie. It turned out great. I used a "cheese" pumpkin and everything else was exactly as written. The pumpkin was big enough that I got 4 pies out of it. I will make this again!

Chef John's Make-Ahead Turkey Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2012
This recipe was a hit with both me and my guests! I loved the fact I could make it a couple of days ahead of time and save the space on the stove. Like others said it is a little time consuming but having it done and out of the way was worth it. I made it exactly as written except in place of the cayenne pepper I used 1/4 tsp bhut jolokia powder which gave the gravy an unusually nice spicy taste. I ended up with a qt of gravy. Thanks Chef John I will be using this recipe again in the future!

Fresh Tomato Basil Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2012
I use this recipe all the time to use up tomatoes from the garden. The only thing I do differently is I cut the tomatoes up in chunks and cook them down on low for about 3 hrs then I run them through a food mill to puree' them then I add them to the onion, garlic mixture. I also add a tsp of brown sugar to get rid of some of the acidity. As stated in the blurp at the top of the recipe this is def. a late summer delight! Thanks Mindim!

Whiz-Wit Dip from JJsMama

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2012
The following is my original review from January 3, 2011 before JJsMama changed the recipe to unshared ....Let me start by saying I hope AR accepts and publishes this recipe. It turned out phenomenal! I was going to make it for NYE but plans changed and I didnt so I decided to make it for the Eagles vs Cowboys game today.I hope it makes it that long. I made it exactly as written with the exception of leaving out the roasted red peppers b/c I forgot to buy them. I used my own canned jalapenos from my garden which gave it just the right kick. I am using sliced and halved Italian bread . Next time I think I will buy a couple of french baguettes and toast them alittle. Thanks JJsmama for this AWESOME dip! I will be making this again!

This got mixed reiews. I made it two different ways. First, I made it exactly as written and 2 out of 3 liked it. I also made it vegatarian only subbing Boca crumbles for the ground beef and 1 of 2 liked that. I'm not sure if I will make this again.

Black Bean Rice Burgers

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2012
These were good but as written the would not stay torether. I added approx 1/2 cup bread crumbs. I think the sauce was very good and helped these out alot without the sauce they needed something else. I will be making these again because I have a bunch of the rice and bean mixture left that I am freezing.

Tex'n Melt'm

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2012
I made this tonight for a get together. It was devoured. I should have doubled the recipe. I used southwest style salsa and only half of the cheese (8oz). It was still really good.Added nacho cheese to the top of a little bit and it makes it even better. I will make it again. Thanks!

Garlic Infused Broccoli Rabe and Chickpeas

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
This was just OK! I was the only one out of five people who liked this. The two kids might have liked it if it wasnt too spicy for them.I made it exactly as written. It uses way too much oil. If I make this again I will probably cut the oil in half to 1/3 cup and skip the first browning of garlic step as I didnt feel it did anything. I would just add all 3 cloves of garlic at the same time as I add the broccoli rabe. As far as the flavor it really seemed to be missing something like 1 tsp of italian seasoning. If I make this again I will rerate it.
